Nestled just beyond the Cambodian border, Bavet Mocbai Casino & Hotel presents itself as a convenient and accessible stop for travelers, particularly those crossing over from Vietnam. This dual-purpose establishment offers a mix of gaming and lodging, with guest experiences painting a varied picture of its services and amenities.
For avid gamblers, Bavet Mocbai holds a unique appeal due to its proximity to the border. It's noted as being the closest casino easily walkable from Vietnam. Critically, it features an actual Texas Hold'em poker table, though poker games are primarily played at night. Roulette is also among the available options. The casino generally boasts a "nice ambiance," contributing to an enjoyable atmosphere.
However, some visitors have expressed that the casino's offerings can be "incomprehensible" for those unfamiliar with local games, as tables are predominantly for local gaming preferences. This might mean a more limited selection of international games beyond poker and roulette, potentially leaving some tourists feeling there's "nothing for a tourist to do there" if their preferred games are not present.
The hotel section of Bavet Mocbai has received mostly favorable feedback for its rooms. Guests have described them as "very nice," "good," and "spacious." While categorized as a "budget hotel," visitors appreciate the comfort provided, often crediting the staff who go "out of their way to make guest feel welcome and as comfortable as the facilities can be." This makes it a viable option for those "stuck across the border."
A significant point of contention for some guests, however, is the pervasive issue of smoke throughout the entire hotel building. This could be a considerable drawback for non-smokers or those sensitive to smoke, impacting the overall quality of their stay.
When it comes to dining, guests have reported experiences ranging from "fine" to discovering "delicious choices of food and drinks," suggesting that the culinary offerings are generally satisfactory. While specific restaurant details are not extensively shared, the overall impression points to a decent selection.
The hotel's location also adds to its convenience, with markets, shops, and duty-free stores within easy walking distance. This allows guests to readily access various amenities and shopping opportunities without needing further transportation.
A consistent highlight across numerous reviews is the staff's performance. They are frequently lauded as "very welcoming," "accommodating," "friendly," "helpful," and "supportive." Their dedication to guest satisfaction and their willingness to assist are highly praised.
Despite their commendable demeanor, a notable challenge for international guests is the significant language barrier. English is reportedly not widely spoken among staff, who primarily communicate in Cambodian, Vietnamese, and potentially Chinese. This can lead to communication difficulties, even when attempts are made to use translator apps, as one reviewer experienced. Visitors are advised to be prepared for potential communication hurdles.
Bavet Mocbai Casino & Hotel offers a practical and accessible option for those venturing to Bavet. While its excellent staff and strategic border location are significant advantages, potential guests should be mindful of the prevalent language barrier and the smoky environment to ensure their stay meets expectations.
It’s the closest casino to the border that has an actual poker table for Texas Holdem. You can just walk to it from Vietnam. They only play poker at night, though. They also have roulette. The staff are nice and helpful, but almost no one speaks English; just Cambodian, Vietnamese, and maybe Chinese. The restaurant is fine and the ambiance is nice in the casino in general.I didn’t stay in the hotel, so I can’t review the rooms.
The room was very nice. Staff were very welcoming and accommodating. Delicious choices of food and drinks.
It was difficult, the hotel and restaurant staff did not understand anything at all. I tried it through a translator, this is the situation. The casino is generally incomprehensible, the tables are only with local games. There is nothing for a tourist to do there. I won't be back again. The hotel itself is good, spacious rooms, but there is one minus, the whole building is smoky
A budget hotel with incredibly friendly and supportive staff. Far from five star, but a big high five for going out your way to make guest feel welcome and as comfortable as the facilities can be. Will stay again next time I’m stuck across the boarder. lol
This place is just inside the Cambodia border. I have stayed here on many occasions and it has a nice atmosphere. The staff are friendly and helpful. There are markets, shops, and duty-free stores within walking distance.
