Grey Eagle Resort and Casino Guide and Review

Located in Calgary, Alberta, the Grey Eagle Resort and Casino is frequently lauded by visitors as a surprisingly beautiful and multifaceted destination. While primarily a casino, guests highlight its appeal beyond just gaming, making it suitable for groups, dates, or even extended stays.
Dining Experiences 🍽️
One of the most consistently praised aspects of Grey Eagle is its culinary offerings, particularly the buffet restaurant.
- The Buffet Restaurant: Visitors rave about the "absolutely fantastic" buffet, noting the "nice variety of everything" and "delicious desserts." Many describe it as consistently satisfying, with one guest stating they "can't think of one time that we have been disappointed with the food." It's highly recommended to "get there early" as its popularity means "people will line up to eat there."
- Hotel & Casino Grills: The hotel restaurant is described as having "delicious food" and being "decently priced." Similarly, the casino grill is noted for being "well priced and good food."
- Blaze Bar & Grill: While the food (fries, specifically) at Blaze Bar & Grill received moderate praise for being "OK, nothing special but tasted good," service has been noted as slow and order mistakes can occur.
Concert and Events Center 🎤
The Grey Eagle also serves as a popular venue for concerts and events, earning generally positive feedback:
- The venue layout is "pretty good," offering a "good" sound quality and an "easy to view" stage.
- Attendees appreciate the "double monitors" on either side of the stage, enhancing the viewing experience.
- A notable point for concertgoers is that while the venue itself is well-regarded, floor seating can feel "uncomfortable and cramped." Guests suggest trying the "graduated seating" for a potentially more comfortable experience.
Hotel Accommodations & Service ✨
For those considering an overnight stay, the hotel receives high marks, even from guests who typically avoid casino hotels:
- Outstanding Service: The staff are consistently highlighted for their exceptional friendliness and positive energy, from the initial greeting and bag assistance to the front desk.
- Cleanliness & Amenities: Rooms are described as "very clean." The gym is noted for being "clean," having a "good variety of equipment," and a "modern atmosphere." While the pool may be on the "smaller size," it is present and appreciated.
Important Consideration: Smoking Policy 💨
A significant point of feedback, particularly for non-smokers, is that the casino and some of its dining areas, such as Blaze Bar & Grill, are open smoking areas. This policy can be a considerable drawback for some visitors, with one reviewer explicitly stating it would "prevent me from eating there again," although they would still "return for another concert."
Overall Recommendation ✅
Grey Eagle Resort and Casino offers a diverse and generally positive experience, particularly for its excellent buffet, well-regarded concert venue, and high-quality hotel service and amenities. Despite concerns about cramped floor seating at concerts and the open smoking areas within the casino and some dining venues, the establishment is frequently recommended for its overall beauty, value, and range of entertainment and dining options. Many visitors express a strong intent to return, whether for dining, a concert, or an extended stay.
Honestly, I was absolutely shocked at how beautiful this place was. The buffet restaurant in the casino was absolutely fantastic and I loved it very much. There was a nice variety of everything and the desserts were delicious. I highly recommend going here as a group or even as a lovely date, it's totally worth it. The pictures on the walls spoke volumes to me and I worshiped each and everyone of them. What a fantastic place ❤️
Went to see Jon Vinyl—amazing performance! 👏The only downside was the thick smell of smoke in the air. I personally got a dry throat almost immediately upon entry. I understand it’s a First Nations–owned casino, and smoking indoors is permitted, which makes sense. They have a smoking designated zone. But just a heads-up for anyone sensitive to smoke it’s noticeable as soon as you walk in and can stick with you after you leave. That was my first time in there and wasn't expecting it so it hit harder than if I knew. That said, the acoustics were excellent, and the staff both security and concession were super friendly. Great venue overall, just something to keep in mind depending on your comfort level with smoke.
Great place to go for a concert at their events center. The venue layout is pretty good. The only downside is that the floor seating felt uncomfortable and cramped. Three small people and we were overlapping each other while seated. Next time, I will try the graduated seating. It looked more comfortable. If you plan on eating at the casino, get there early. The food is really good at the buffet and people will line up to eat there.
Don't usually like staying at Casino's but this was an exception. The service was outstanding right from when we were greeted at the door with friendly service offering to haul our bags to the room, to the friendly front desk staff and positive energy from all the staff we met during our 4 night stay. The rooms were very clean, the gym was clean and had a good variety of equipment and modern atmosphere. The pool was maybe on the smaller size but still at least had one! The hotel restaurant had a delicious food, decently priced and the casino grill was also well priced and good food. I will be definitely staying here again.
Went to a concert and ate at the Blaze Bar & Grill. The concert venue is good. Sound is about as good as it gets, and the stage is easy to view. Also liked the double monitors on either side of the stage. The Blaze needs some revisions. We found the service slow and our drink order was wrong. Don't know if it's due to being short staffed maybe? The food was OK, nothing special but tasted good and they know how to cook fries properly. Was also hot when we were served. The one thing I really didn't like was that the casino and, by extension the Blaze, are open smoking areas. After years of being in non smoking establishments, this was a real thorn in my side. That alone will prevent me from eating there again, but I would return for another concert. We did not stay at the hotel.
