Century Mile Racetrack and Casino

Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Century Mile Racetrack and Casino offers a unique blend of gaming excitement and dining experiences, often complemented by the thrill of live racing. While many visitors praise its friendly staff and general atmosphere, recent reviews highlight areas where consistency, especially in food quality and complaint resolution, could be improved.

A Welcoming Atmosphere & Stellar Service ✨

One of the most frequently lauded aspects of Century Mile is its staff. Patrons consistently describe the team, from guest services at the entrance to slot attendants and bartenders, as very friendly, smiling, helpful, and prompt. This dedication to service creates a genuinely welcoming environment that significantly enhances the visitor experience. Whether you're seeking drink suggestions or navigating the facilities, the staff often goes the extra mile to ensure a pleasant visit.

Dining Delights with a View 🍽️

Century Mile boasts several dining options, including the Derby restaurant and the Finish Line Buffet, offering a diverse culinary experience. Many reviews commend the food for its taste and value. Highlights mentioned include:

  • In-house made Ginger Beef: Described as crispy, flavourful, and not overly saucy.
  • Generous servings: Such as the shrimp and rigatoni.
  • Comfort food classics: Like meatloaf with commendable gravy and mashed potatoes.
  • Gluten-Free Options: Plain nachos were noted as a perfect gluten-free choice for celiac diners.

The dining area, often referred to as the "Derby restaurant," is also highlighted for its family-friendly atmosphere, allowing kids to join, and offering a fantastic view of the racetrack action. While the Finish Line Buffet was mentioned as having a "pretty good" selection, one reviewer noted it wasn't "huge."

Accessibility & Convenience 🚗

The facility is well-equipped for accessibility, offering plenty of parking. For those with mobility issues, there's an option for front-door drop-off and an elevator to the dining room, ensuring ease of access to all areas without concern for stairs.

Areas for Improvement: Consistency is Key ⚠️

Despite the many positives, some recent experiences indicate a need for greater consistency, particularly concerning food quality and how customer complaints are handled. Instances noted include:

  1. Inconsistent Food Preparation: A Halifax donair was served spicy instead of with the expected sweet sauce, leading to disappointment and an inability to finish the meal.
  2. Quality Control Issues: A beef dip sandwich was served with a significant portion of fat, leading to a less-than-satisfactory meal.
  3. Complaint Resolution & Management Engagement: In both instances of food quality issues, reviewers expressed dissatisfaction with the resolution process. Compensation offered ($10 off for the donair, 25% for the beef dip) was deemed inadequate, and management was perceived as unresponsive or uncaring when escalated, leaving patrons feeling unheard and hungry. This can unfortunately detract from an otherwise positive experience and deter return visits.

Final Thoughts

Century Mile Racetrack and Casino offers a generally enjoyable outing, particularly lauded for its friendly staff and the combined entertainment of gaming and live racing. The dining options often provide tasty and good-value meals. However, prospective visitors should be aware that while the overall experience is often positive, there have been recent instances where food consistency and responsiveness to customer feedback on issues could significantly improve to match the high standards set by the service staff.

Always a fun time! Tasty food. Cold drinks. Great service! The staff is the highlight at Century Mile Racetrack and Casino! Very friendly from guest services as you walk in. The slot attenders are usually smiling when I meet eyes with them. The bartenders are helpful with suggestions and prompt. This visit was no different. Told us the special too in case that helped with the decision making. From the casino floor wandered upstairs to the dining area where kids are welcome. Great meal with a view of the action. My favorite was the ginger beef made in house. Crispy, flavourful and not overly saucy. Just the way I like it. My mom enjoyed the big serving of shrimp and rigatoni. My dad and brother got the meatloaf to which they commented on the gravy and mashed potatoes. Everyone left satisfied and happy. Great service and value. Looking forward to my next visit!Plenty of parking as well. Anyone with mobility issues I feel should probably get dropped off at the front door. There is an elevator to the dining room as well so no fret about the stairs.

This is the third time we’ve come to play some slots and have a few drinks but tonight we decided to have some food to! It was very very good. There was also a celiac in the dining group and the plain nachos were gf and perfect. Will def dine again

Decided to try something new, so checked out the website and thought that looks like a good time. It's our first time here, and came with a group of 6. When I called to see if we needed reservations the lady advised to get them for the finish line buffet. All staff are very friendly and helpful. The food was pretty good but not a huge selection. We had a blast and will definitely be back.

My husband and I go to Century Mile frequently and often eat at the Derby restaurant, food has always been great until yesterday and the compensation given was inadequate. They have new menu items which the waitress told us about - being from the east coast and seeing the Halifax donair I was excited to try and so was my husband. My husband ordered the Halifax Donair and onion rings and I ordered the same with tater tot poutine. If you’re familiar with a Halifax donair it has a sweet sauce - just onion and tomato and meat. The sauce was good and the meat is made in house but it was spicy! So spicy that my husband didn’t eat his only the onion rings and I hate half mine but couldn’t finish it. We immediately told the waitress and asked for water as it was so spicy (we had to ask for the water twice) - she asked if we wanted something else and she said she would talk to the manager whom thought removing $10 from the bill was good enough. We left hungry! I asked to speak to the manager as I said this was not good enough and coming from the east coast the donair should not be spicy- we sat and waited for another 10 minutes and the manager couldn’t be bothered to come and speak to me. They just took my number etc. my husband took one bite of his Donair and ate onion rings. I wasn’t expecting the whole bill to be compensated but I was expecting my husbands meal to be taken off at the very least. $10 off not good enough. Very disappointed in my experience

My wife and I have eaten at the restaurant many times, she has prime rib and I have beef dip. On May 22/25 we stopped to have supper. My beef dip was brought out and it’s cut in two as it always is, one half was total fat, I removed and add meat from the other half. Waitress came by I showed her, she said she would talk with kitchen. We did not see her again till the bill. I said I thought you were going to replace the sandwich. She told me she spoke with the kitchen so it does not happen again, I then asked for a discount which I thought 50% would be fair, she said 25% was discounted. I then commented that maybe we should try River Cree next time. Her response was that’s ok, I don’t think we will return in the future. She did not seem to care. I have always told people about the food, won’t being doing it anymore. Thanks RC
