Westbrook Inn

Located in Winnipeg, Canada, the Westbrook Inn is categorized as primarily a casino. However, a closer look at recent customer feedback paints a picture of a venue with a complex history and ongoing operational challenges, leaning more towards a hotel and bar with live entertainment than a dedicated casino facility.

Recent Challenges and Customer Experiences 📉

Reviews from the past couple of years highlight significant issues that potential visitors should be aware of:

  1. Persistent Noise Complaints đŸ“ĸ

A recurring concern, particularly for those in the vicinity, is the excessive noise levels, especially late into the night and on weekends. One recent guest reported loud music waking up children and being a consistent disturbance every weekend, raising questions about soundproofing and consideration for residents.

  2. Questionable Pricing & Customer Service 💸

Another prominent complaint revolves around inconsistent pricing and unhelpful staff responses. A customer detailed an incident where advertised beer sales were denied, despite clear promotional evidence, leading to frustration and a feeling of being "ripped off."

  3. Operational Status & Fire Damage Recovery đŸ”Ĩ

Perhaps the most critical information gleaned from reviews is the operational status of the Inn. As of a review from two years ago, the bar and hotel sections have been closed since March 2022 due to a fire. While the "vendor" (likely a liquor store) remained open, and an attached Filipino restaurant operates (Tuesday to Saturday, 4 PM to 12:30 AM), repairs for the main bar and rooms have been significantly delayed. Initial reopening estimates for the bar (May/June 2023) appear to have been missed, and the hotel rooms, intended for monthly rentals, have an unknown completion date. This suggests the primary "casino" aspect, if any, is likely impacted or non-existent in the main structure.

  4. Disappointing Entertainment & Staff Demeanor 🎤

Even when open, the entertainment experience has been criticized. A guest reported a rude DJ who refused song requests and made insulting remarks about "old people," suggesting a lack of professionalism and customer consideration.

A Glimpse into the Past: Live Music & Memories đŸŽļ

While recent reviews are overwhelmingly negative, an older review from seven years ago offers a nostalgic perspective. This individual cherished the Westbrook Inn for its long history (over 30 years) as a live music venue, recalling numerous performances and friendships forged within its walls. The review acknowledges that the venue "doesn't 'hop' like it used to" but still held a special place, indicating its past role as a vibrant community hub for musicians and patrons.

Overall Impression & Recommendation 🤔

Based on the available user reviews, the Westbrook Inn appears to be currently facing significant challenges, primarily related to its extended closure due to fire damage, ongoing noise issues, and concerning customer service practices when operational. While it holds historical significance for some as a former live music hotspot, its present state seems to fall far short of expectations. The designation as a "casino" is not supported by the reviews, which instead point to a struggling hotel/bar venue.

Prospective visitors should approach with caution, verifying current operational status and services directly with the establishment. Given the consistent negative feedback on noise, pricing, and overall management, it may not be the ideal choice for those seeking a quiet stay, transparent pricing, or a vibrant entertainment experience in its current form.

Has a special place in my heart because of its history in my musical growth. Over 30 years of memories performing live music with different bands, a lot of friends made, a lot of life lived in this place. Doesn't "hop" like it used to, but still a place where good times can be had. Long live the Westbrook Inn.
