Located in the vibrant city of Kyrenia (Girne), Cyprus, Malpas Hotel & Casino positions itself as a prime destination, primarily for its casino offerings. However, user experiences reveal a hotel that offers a mixed bag, with both commendable aspects and notable areas for improvement.
Guest feedback for Malpas Hotel & Casino points to a property with significant potential, often praised for its friendly staff and scenic views. Yet, recurring themes of maintenance issues, inconsistent service quality, and specific facility shortcomings temper the overall guest experience. While some guests enjoyed extended, restful stays, others encountered frustrations that detracted from a "5-star" perception.
The hotel offers clean rooms, with some featuring balconies and providing amazing sunset views. However, several guests reported significant maintenance issues, including:
Staff performance at Malpas Hotel & Casino appears to be a point of contrast:
The food generally receives a good rating, described as catering to "all tastes & nationalities," ensuring guests "never went hungry." Breakfast was considered average. A common observation was the abundance of very sugary sweets, which might be an issue for guests with sugar intolerance or diabetes. There was a suggestion for the hot food presentation to match the artistic level of the cold food.
As a hotel primarily featuring a casino, specific details about the casino experience were not highlighted in the provided reviews. However, other facilities garnered attention:
The outdoor pool is described as large and well-equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas. A significant safety concern was raised regarding dangerous pool tiles, with one guest experiencing a nasty tumble.
The gym was specifically mentioned as being "good."
This facility received strong negative feedback. Guests reported that it was "not a beach" and "not at all nice." The sea was deemed "not clean or safe to swim in," leading guests to leave immediately.
WiFi connectivity was described as "sketchy," with reliable streaming only possible late at night when fewer guests were active.
Based on guest feedback, key areas that detract from the Malpas Hotel & Casino experience include:
Malpas Hotel & Casino in Kyrenia offers a destination with potential, particularly appealing to those seeking a casino experience in a hotel setting. Guests frequently laud the efforts of individual staff members for their friendliness and helpfulness, and the hotel provides good views and a decent gym. However, the hotel's ambition to be a "5-star" establishment is undermined by foundational issues in room maintenance, inconsistent service training, and deficiencies in key advertised facilities like the "beach club." Prospective visitors should weigh these factors, especially if modern amenities, consistent service, and a reliable beach experience are high priorities.
Hum this could be such a great hotel, but I don’t think staff or management care much about it -First night : bed frame bed side lamp broken, no menu lots of stuff missing in the room.Very slow staff but at least they were friendlyBreakfast was average nothing specialGym was good !Amazing sunset from the room
We spent 3 weeks in Sept/Oct at the Malpas (our second visit, last visit was March 2019). We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with the help of very cheerful accommodating staff. Murat and Ali were absolutely brilliant in the restaurant area. They really made an effort to make sure that visitors enjoyed their experience and were lighthearted and fun as well. We felt that if the Chef of the hot food could alter the presentation to the artistic level of the cold food, it would be much more appealing. We appreciate it is not easy serving providing food for so many people and generally, there is something for everyone. People have criticised the Reception staff but our experience was different. They were very helpful, especially Mike. Any minor queries were dealt with very efficiently. Our Diamond Court room was a pleasant room to stay in and we didn’t find it a problem having to walk up to the main building. However, if one has walking disabilities, it would be best to stay in the main hotel. The pool tiles have been mentioned, my Husband had a nasty tumble on our first day. They are dangerous and will hopefully be changed at some stage. All in all, a lovely stay amongst really nice staff. Thank you all. Ps. We will be back!
Had a nice week here, very restful & quiet. All of the staff are very friendly & cannot do enough for you. Food was good too catering for all tastes & nationalities. Never went hungary but they are a little over the top with their sweets as are loaded with sugar so if you have a sugar intolerance or diabetic, forget it!
Not a 5 star in my opinion.Where do I begin... My friend whom I booked a room with is on medication, 3 different tablets, 3 times a day, so needless to say, he requires a lot of water. We purchased a case of small bottles of water from a nearby store to avoid paying 10 lira each time he needs to take his medication, walked into to be greeted by security as if we were some criminals. The security said “this isn’t a holiday village, it’s a 5 star hotel, you can’t bring in water”. Now I’ve been to many five star hotels around the world and have never been spoken to like this. He showed no remorse when I explained the situation, in fact, more of them turned up and joined in.There’s more... no working sockets in the room. We were given an extension which is over 20m long to stick into the only (sort of) working wicket in the room and we’re told to balance the kettle on the lead so the connection doesn’t loosen. Not very representative of a 5 star hotel.Reception couldn’t come up with a solution in the whole 7 days we’ve been here.Housekeeping is great and the hotel is clean, but the service is seriously slacking, they need training in hospitality and how to deal with guests and manage conflicts as this is non-existent.
Firstly some positives: We had a nice clean room with balcony, and the staff were welcoming and helpful. The outdoor pool is large and well equipped with sun beds and umbrellas. However there were some real problems: The foremost being the"beach club". It is not a beach and not at all nice. The sea was not clean or safe to swim in. When we went, we left again straight away.We had half board but ate out most evenings as the food was boring and lacking in any local flavours or variety. The WiFi was a bit sketchy too. No chance of streaming until the rest of the hotel had gone to bed.
