Barceló Bávaro Palace

Nestled in the vibrant city of Bávaro, Dominican Republic, the Barceló Bávaro Palace stands as a prominent resort destination, known for its extensive amenities including a casino. Based on recent guest experiences, the resort offers a blend of spectacular features and areas that could benefit from refinement. While many visitors praise its beautiful setting and engaging activities, some concerns regarding dining comfort and room specifics have been noted.

The Good: What Guests Loved 🌴

  1. Stellar Service & Entertainment 🌟

    • The pool entertainment team, with shout-outs to Annie and Jorge Thompson, consistently received high praise for their fantastic energy and ability to involve everyone in fun, well-organized activities and shows. They truly made the pool experience enjoyable.
    • Guests highlighted the staff as super friendly, attentive, and helpful, always ensuring drinks were topped up and assistance was readily available despite occasional language barriers.
  2. Gorgeous Grounds & Beach 🏖️

    • The property is described as beautiful and well-maintained, featuring a truly gorgeous beach that was diligently kept clean from seaweed.
    • The beach offers plenty of seating and ample shade, especially in quieter areas with palm trees. Many guests enjoyed swimming and spotting abundant turtles and fish close to the shore, recommending packing goggles for the experience.
    • The pool areas and rooms were found to be very nice and clean, contributing to a pleasant stay.
  3. Dining Delights (with caveats) 🍽️

    • The resort boasts a variety of à la carte restaurants, with the Japanese restaurant being a standout recommendation ("Do NOT skip this one!"). The Spanish and Mexican restaurants were also popular choices.
    • For those seeking a more serene dining experience, the Premium Level upgrade was deemed well worth it, offering a quieter buffet for breakfast and lunch.
  4. Activities & Amenities 🎯

    • The resort offers a range of daily activities, including popular options like 2 PM Bingo and engaging nightly shows at 10 PM. Escape rooms were also a hit on rainy days.
    • The golf course was appreciated by guests, though the "free golf" advertised for premium guests came with significant cart and club rental fees.
    • The overall size of the resort was seen as a positive by some, being large enough to explore but not overwhelmingly so that walking became impossible.

Areas for Improvement: Guest Concerns ⚠️

  1. Dining & Comfort Issues 🥵

    • While a la carte options were praised, the buffet experience was described as "chaos" and concerning, with reports of flies around the food being "pretty disgusting."
    • Several specialty restaurants (Japanese, Mexican, Spanish) were noted to be uncomfortably hot due to apparent AC issues, leading guests to leave immediately after eating, and workers reportedly sweating excessively.
    • Guests on shorter stays (e.g., 4 days) found the limited number of specialty restaurant reservations (only two) to be a drawback.
    • The general cafeteria food was sometimes described as largely bland.
  2. Room & Resort Logistics 🛏️

    • Issues with the AC in rooms not working as expected were mentioned by some visitors.
    • Guests staying on the third floor noted the absence of an elevator, which could be inconvenient.
    • For families, the design of the washrooms in Family Duplex rooms offered very little privacy, featuring frosted glass walls and doors without latches, prompting guests to step onto balconies for privacy.
    • The sheer size and spread-out nature of the resort meant a long walk to get drinks on the beach, as no butlers were available for beach service.
  3. Value & Other Notes 💸

    • The "free golf" for premium guests came with significant mandatory fees ($65 cart, $45 club rental), which felt misleading to some.
    • The alcohol selection was deemed not great, with a predominant focus on sweet drinks.
    • A recurring observation was a musty, damp odor in shops and public washrooms, attributed to high humidity.

Overall Verdict ✅

Barceló Bávaro Palace is a resort with immense potential, offering a beautiful setting and vibrant entertainment that deeply resonated with many guests, particularly families. The dedicated staff and engaging activities contribute significantly to a positive vacation experience. However, prospective visitors should be aware of potential challenges concerning dining comfort (especially in specialty restaurants lacking adequate cooling), buffet hygiene, and some room design quirks. While it may not be everyone's top choice, especially for those prioritizing a seamless dining experience in all venues, it remains a recommended destination for those seeking a fun, activity-filled beach vacation with attentive service.

This place was gorgeous, but we had a not so good experience.Golf course was nice and they advertise free golf of premium guest, but charge you $65 for cart fee, and another $45 for club rental. $110 is free.Pool areas and room were very nice, good entertainment everyday, but alcohol selection not so great. Lots of sweet drinks.Food was so, so. The buffet was ok, but when there are flies flying all over your food the whole time it was pretty disgusting. Japanese, Mexican, and Spanish restaurants were so hot in there we basically just had to walk out as soon as we finished eating. Miserable when you and the workers are dripping sweat all over the place not sure if the AC was broken or what, but even the workers were sweating. If the AC was broken shut it down instead of putting people through that miseryNo butlers on the beach, have to walk far to get a drink, so makes you hold back on how much you drink. The place is huge and spread out a good bit. Definitely get your steps in.It was our 3rd time to Punta Cana, and this was definitely the worst of the three. No a horrible place but definitely not the best resort we have been too

Beautiful property and absolutely gorgeous beach. They kept it clean from seaweed and was really well maintained. Rooms were Clean but AC in the rooms didn’t work as expected. No elevator for third floor room. Not many food options and cafeteria food was largely bland. Can only make reservations for two Speciality restaurants for a 4 days stay

This is a nice resort. Not too large you can’t walk to where you need to go, but also large enough you can explore a little. The beach is beautiful with plenty of seating. I saw a review saying the beach lacked shade, however this was only true right in the middle. If you walk a bit down the beach, it is quiet with more palm trees for shade. My family spent a lot of time swimming in the water. Pack goggles because there are tons of turtles and fish to see close to the beach. The food is good but buffet feels like chaos. We purchased premium level and it was well worth it. We ate breakfast and lunch at the quiet premium level buffet each day.We booked a different à la carte each night for supper and loved it. We rate them from favour first:Japanese (Do NOT skip this one!)MexicanItalianFrenchInternationalSteakhouseSeafood(We didn’t have time to try Spanish)The staff were very good and attentive. We always found help when needed and our drinks were always topped up. There was definitely a language barrier as many knew very little English and we know very little Spanish but it never caused frustration.Check your daily activity schedule! We loved 2pm Bingo and attended the 10pm nightly shows. We did both escape rooms as well as we had a couple rainy days and really enjoyed them. The only couple negatives I have is due to the high humidity, the shops and public washrooms have a musty, damp odour. Some days worse than others.IF you are staying in a family room, know that you will have very little privacy when using the washroom (hahaha). There is no real washroom in the room. The toilet and shower just have frosted glass walls and doors. No latches. We have teenage girls and found ourselves stepping out onto the balcony often to give them some privacy. All and all, we would definitely recommend this resort to our own family and friends. We had a great week.
