Located in the vibrant city of Batumi, Georgia, the Hotel London 1889, formerly known as The Divan Hotel, presents itself as a hotel with a primary offering of a casino. This review synthesizes various guest experiences to provide a comprehensive overview of what to expect from this establishment.
The hotel consistently receives high praise for its excellent and central location in Old Batumi. Guests appreciate its proximity to numerous tourist attractions, bars, restaurants, and shops, all within comfortable walking distance. Despite being centrally located, the area is generally described as quiet, contributing to a peaceful stay. One reviewer noted the absence of casinos or clubs immediately surrounding the hotel, which might appeal to those seeking a quieter ambiance outside the hotel's own casino facility.
A standout feature across almost all reviews is the exceptional quality of the hotel's staff. Guests frequently highlight the reception team as extremely nice, helpful, supportive, and friendly. Security personnel are also noted for their friendly demeanor. Room service is described as amazing, contributing to an overall positive service experience. Special mentions were made for staff members like Mr. Sandro, who provided helpful and friendly assistance upon arrival.
The hotel boasts newly renovated rooms, with many guests finding them nice, very nice, spacious, clean, and featuring a pleasant design. Bathrooms are often described as modern. Some rooms also offer a small balcony. However, comfort in rooms received mixed feedback:
The hotel offers breakfast, which is generally described as very good or having many options. However, one guest felt that the breakfast, while decent, did not quite meet the expectations for a hotel of its price point. Another minor point raised was the desire for machine coffee to be included in the breakfast price.
Beyond its primary function as a hotel, Hotel London 1889 offers several amenities:
While many aspects of the hotel are commendable, a few areas stand out for potential improvement:
There's a noticeable divergence in opinion regarding the hotel's perceived luxury and value. Some guests describe it as an "amazing luxury hotel" and "great place to stay," highly recommending it. Others, particularly those familiar with its previous incarnation as Divan, felt that while prices remained high, the new version "falls far short of that standard" of luxury. This suggests that while it might be an excellent choice for some, those expecting a top-tier luxury experience reminiscent of its past may be disappointed, especially given the identified room comfort issues.
Hotel London 1889 in Batumi offers a mixed but generally positive experience. Its unbeatable location, exceptionally friendly staff, and good breakfast options are strong selling points. The recently renovated rooms, spa facilities, and presence of a casino add to its appeal. However, potential guests should be aware of possible issues with in-room comfort (AC noise, cold bathrooms, view variability) and a potentially slow cleaning service. If these minor drawbacks are addressed, the hotel has the potential to solidify its reputation as a premier destination in Batumi for both leisure and business travelers seeking a central, well-serviced stay, and for those interested in its casino offerings.
The hotel (Previously known as The Divan hotel) is in a great location, walking distance from many tourist attractions. The breakfast is very good. The reception is extremely nice and helpful with anything we asked. Rooms are very nice, at least our room was. The cleaning service of the rooms is slow and not that great. Nice spa with sauna and option for massages and facials. The hotel also has a casino, I didn’t go in so I’m not sure how is it.I highly recommend the hotel.
This hotel, previously known as Divan, was once a luxury. Unfortunately, the new version falls far short of that standard, despite maintaining the same high price point. My stay was far from pleasant. The noise in the room was a major issue. The fan of air-conditioning was too noisy, with no difference whether set to high or low speed. You have to choose between a comfortable room temperature with noise or a quiet but cold room. Additionally, the bathroom was very cold as it lacked any heating—an oversight that made using the bathroom unpleasant. The view from the window was far from appealing. It’s a shame for a property located in Old Batumi. If you’re expecting a charming boutique hotel in a romantic, old-town setting, this is not it. If you’re looking for luxury, you won’t find it here either. Breakfast is decent, but it didn’t meet the expectations one might have for a hotel of this price. The only real positive aspect of my stay was the polite staff, who did their best despite the hotel’s shortcomings. Overall, I was deeply disappointed.
Beautiful hotel located right at the old town next to bars, restaurants and shops all in walking distance. Although central, the area is quiet. No casinos or clubs around if that’s what you’re looking for. The room was not big (two double beds) but fully renovated with a small balcony and a modern bathroom. Overall we really liked it and will come back!
Hotel is newly renovated. Rooms are spacious and clean with nice design. Stuff on the reception super supportive and friendly. Security guys were like your best buddies. Room service amazing. One of the few things to improve, coffee from the machine during the breakfast should be included in the price. Overall, great place to stay with family and for business.
This hotel was an amazing place.Luxury hotel, nice staff and perfect location every thing was nearly around this place.Special thanks to Mr. Sandro he was very helpful and friendly with us once we arrived.About view only tow option you have even you got sweet room with good view anther one standard option without view 😅.Many options on breakfast 🍳.Only one thing it was not good with us the AC can’t control with it and the air flow was directly to bed 🛏️.You have to try this hotel really.
