Spielbank Rostock Guide and Review

Located in the charming city of Warnemünde, Germany, Spielbank Rostock operates as the region's largest casino, offering a blend of traditional casino games and slot machines. Reviews paint a picture of a venue that, while potentially suitable for its local context, faces significant challenges in consistency and guest experience.
The Atmosphere and Size
Many visitors note that Spielbank Rostock is not a large casino, especially when compared to grand international venues like Monte Carlo or even larger German casinos such as the one at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. For some, this smaller scale contributes to a "living room atmosphere", making it feel cozy and comfortable. As one Berlin visitor put it, "in Rostock, there's a living room atmosphere. But that's what makes it cozy."
However, for others expecting a more luxurious or expansive casino experience, its size and perceived "shabby and worn out" ambience can be a disappointment, feeling more like a "slot machine game world with underground offerings for classic games" rather than a full-fledged casino. Visitors accustomed to larger casinos might experience "the casino shock of their life."
Staff and Service 🤵♀️🤵♂️
This is where opinions diverge most sharply. Some guests have praised the staff, describing dealers as "very kind, friendly, and talkative", and noting the managers' efforts to be more professional. These positive experiences include being "always greeted warmly and asked what we'd like to drink".
Conversely, a significant number of reviews highlight issues with staff behavior. Complaints range from employees looking at guests with "cow's eyes" and being "deliberately unfriendly", to appearing "arrogant and uninterested". There are reports of guests not being offered drinks during their entire stay and even overhearing staff discussions implying a preference for "no guest". This inconsistency in service quality appears to be a major pain point for many, leading to comments that staff "just doing their time."
Drinks and Refreshments ☕🍺
A recurring theme in reviews is the casino's policy and execution regarding drinks. While soft and hot drinks are complimentary, alcoholic beverages are not free. Beyond the cost, several guests expressed disappointment at not being offered drinks proactively, having to go to the bar themselves. Even then, the selection can be limited, with one reviewer noting only 3 out of 5 listed drinks were in stock. There are also mentions that guests are not allowed to eat anything inside the casino.
Smoking Policy 🚭💨
The casino's approach to smoking is another area of concern. Reviewers state there is "no smoking area in the live side", requiring guests to go to a separate area to smoke. Despite this, the general sentiment is that it "smells like smoke everywhere", negatively impacting the overall environment for non-smokers or those sensitive to smoke.
Overall Experience and Expectations
Spielbank Rostock appears to be a mixed bag. Those who appreciate a more intimate, state-run casino experience and have realistic expectations about its size relative to "grand casinos" might find it enjoyable, especially if they encounter the friendly staff mentioned in some reviews. However, visitors accustomed to the amenities and service standards of larger, more luxurious establishments may find the experience lacking, particularly due to the perceived inconsistent staff professionalism, restricted drink service, and pervasive smoke smell. Potential visitors should manage their expectations accordingly, viewing it more as a local gaming establishment rather than a high-end international casino resort.
I have been in lots of big and luxury casinos in all around the world. I can easily say those Rostock is small city and the casino for this city is quite enough. Dealers are very kind, friendly and talkative. I can see from the pit bosses (managers) effort much to do more professionel. This effort deserve 5 starts.😉 Only bad thing is No smoking area in the live side that you have to go other Side to smoke😞.
Alcholic drinks not free. You can drink only soft/hot drinks without pay. Place is not too big, but biggest in Rostock. Workers are kind and presantable. It takes 3 stars from me.
A very special casino.Employees look at you with cow's eyes all the time and are deliberately unfriendly. You are not invited to play but asked if you really want to play.No drinks are offered, nothing like that happens. You are not allowed to eat anything either. You have to proactively go to the bar and can choose from what feels like 5 different drinks, of which only 3 are in stock. It smells like smoke everywhere and the ambience looks a bit shabby and worn out. Anyone who has ever been to good grand casinos like Baden Baden or Monte Carlo will get the casino shock of their life.Do your employees get too much Tronc from the machines or why are they all so blind to the company and deliberately unfriendly, you get the feeling that the employees are just doing their time. There is a loud discussion about which is better "a guest or no guest, yes then it's better not to have a guest, hahahha" you know you hear that? Conclusion: you are not a casino as one would imagine, you are more of a slot machine game world with underground offerings for classic games. The new building won't change that because you'll take your problems and your specialist staff with you.
We're from Berlin and love the city of Rostock. Whenever we're in Rostock, a visit to the Spuelbank is a must. You can't compare the casino to the one at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin; in Rostock, there's a living room atmosphere. But that's what makes it cozy. We were always greeted warmly and asked what we'd like to drink. Winnings are paid out, and if you lose, you can't criticize the casino, which some people seem to do. The important thing when gambling is that it's a state-run casino, like here and in Berlin. We look forward to our next visit to Rostock.Sincerely, G and E Heinzelmann from Berlin
I was very disappointed with the service from the casino staff. I wasn't offered a drink during my entire stay. The staff also seemed arrogant and uninterested in the guests. This lack of service negatively affected my visit. I hope that management takes this criticism seriously and takes appropriate action.
