Located in Kakarbhitta (Jhapa), Nepal, Hotel Mechi Crown (HMC) positions itself as a four-star establishment with a primary focus on its casino offerings. Based on recent guest experiences, HMC presents a notable blend of commendable service and areas requiring significant improvement, particularly concerning its amenities and pricing transparency.
The Positives: What Guests Loved â¨
Many visitors found aspects of Hotel Mechi Crown to be truly delightful, especially for events and family getaways:
- Exceptional Hospitality & Service: A consistent highlight is the dedication of the staff. Guests frequently praised the hotel team for being very polite, helpful, and well-disciplined. Special mentions include:
- Housekeeping team members like Prakash Baniya and Sunita Khanal for their prompt service, attention to cleaning, and hygiene.
- Their supervisor, Mr. Pankaj, for cross-checking services and excellent communication.
- Ms. Rasna, who was lauded for going "above and beyond her duty" to assist guests, especially during longer stays.
- Cleanliness & Comfort: Rooms were generally reported as clean and maintained daily, contributing to a comfortable stay.
- Event Suitability: The hotel proved to be an excellent venue for events, such as weddings, with guests reporting wonderful experiences and smooth proceedings.
- Location & Atmosphere: Its proximity to the Indian border makes it a convenient stop for travelers. The overall atmosphere and the night view over the hotel were also appreciated.
- Food & Dining: While breakfast received mixed reviews, the general consensus for dinner was positive, with one staff member's commendable service noted specifically.
- Connectivity (with caveats): While mobile network can be weak, guests noted the hotel's wifi connectivity was good, though there's a desire for it to be seamless throughout the property.
Areas for Improvement: The Not-So-Crown Jewels â ī¸
Despite the strong positives, several guests expressed dissatisfaction, particularly regarding the hotel's facilities and its pricing model:
- Hidden & Extra Charges: This was a significant point of contention. Guests felt they were "charged extra for nearly everything," which was unexpected for a hotel marketed as four-star. This included:
- Additional costs for both male and female spa facilities, sauna, and body massages, which guests often assumed would be included or discounted.
- A lack of clear communication regarding these additional charges at the time of booking.
- Room Issues: While clean, some room specifics were disappointing:
- Toilets were described as "extremely small" with partially detached seats.
- Showers were reported to spray water in all directions and, in one instance, stopped working entirely.
- Subpar Wellness Facilities:
- Gym: Facilities were noted as below standard, with visibly cut cables on equipment and weight plates in poor condition, indicating a lack of proper maintenance.
- Spa: The female spa section had most equipment unavailable, and hygiene standards in the sauna area were a concern. Sauna use also required prior notice and an extra charge.
- Playroom & Overall Ambience: The playroom was described as poorly ventilated and cramped, making it uncomfortable and unwelcoming.
- Average Breakfast: While other dining was generally good, breakfast was consistently described as just "average."
Overall Value & Recommendation đ¤
Hotel Mechi Crown clearly excels in its customer service and staff dedication, making guests feel welcomed and cared for, especially for events or longer stays where staff interaction is frequent. The positive feedback for housekeeping, in particular, is a testament to their commitment to cleanliness.
However, the significant issues surrounding the state of its facilities, such as the gym and spa, coupled with the pervasive system of extra charges for amenities typically expected to be inclusive in a four-star property, detract from the overall value proposition. Guests looking for a truly inclusive resort experience might find the constant additional costs frustrating.
Recommendation: If you are visiting Kakarbhitta primarily for an event, or appreciate excellent service and a convenient location near the border, Hotel Mechi Crown could be a good choice. However, visitors should be prepared for potential additional costs for certain facilities and manage their expectations regarding the condition and accessibility of amenities like the gym and spa.
Came for a wedding event. Was having wonderful experience in hotel HMC. Lovely place to stay. Hotel team were very polite and helpful. Especially housekeeping team who were very particular regarding cleaning and hygiene, Prakash Baniya, Sunita Khanal were very prompt at service and there supervisor Mr. Pankaj who comes and cross check with us regarding cleaning, service. Very much thankful to Hotel HMC. Will visit again soon and wish to meet them again with great service. Thank you.
Disappointing Experience for a Four-Star HotelOur recent stay at HMC Hotel was underwhelming, especially considering it markets itself as a four-star property. Unfortunately, many of the facilities and services did not justify the price we paid.To begin with, we were charged extra for nearly everything. For a hotel of this category, such additional costs were both unexpected and disappointing. The pool was reasonably maintained and met average expectations for a four-star hotel. However, the room was a letdown. The toilet was extremely small, and the seat was partially detached, which made using it uncomfortable. The shower sprayed water in all directions and eventually stopped working altogether. The gym facilities were also below standard. Some of the cables on the equipment were visibly cut, and the weight plates were in poor condition â clearly not maintained properly. The spa experience was far from relaxing. In the female spa section, most of the equipment was unavailable. The male spa, despite being part of a supposedly inclusive hotel package, required additional charges. This was not communicated clearly at the time of booking. The playroom was poorly ventilated and felt cramped, making it uncomfortable and not very welcoming for guests. Hospitality overall was not up to the mark, with the exception of the staff member who served us dinner â his service was commendable. Breakfast, unfortunately, was quite average. The sauna required prior notice to be used, and once again, came with an extra charge. The hygiene standards in the sauna area were concerning. Both the male and female spa facilities were not complimentary, which goes against the expectations for a four-star property.Lastly, we were charged separately for body massages, something we assumed would be included or at least discounted in such a hotel. All in all, this stay did not meet the standards promised, and we left feeling dissatisfied with the overall value and service.
We were at hotel HMC for an event purpose. The welcoming into it was awesome. Love the atmosphere around. Rooms was cleaned and used to daily cleaned by Sunita & Prakash Baniya throughout our stay. Pankaj there supervisor who helped us with some much needed services and most importantly the way he communicate with everyone. All of them were very polite and well disciplined. Wedding event went well. Night view over hotel was awesome. I must say to all visit once to this hotel when you visit Nepal, it's very nearby to India border.Thank you HMC.
Had booked 8 rooms for 3 nights for a family getaway and suffice to say it was a wonderful stay.Hospitality & Service were great by all the staff.Special mention to Ms. Rasna for going above and beyond her duty to help and assist us in all aspects . Would recommend this place.
the service was excellent in all context. the food was also good. the wifi connectivity could be seamless. it should get connected throughout the property as the mobile network is very weak in this location.all in all very happy with the resort
