Located in Playa Bonita, Panama, Ocean Sun Casino presents a somewhat contradictory experience for visitors. While some aspects of the casino, such as its décor and game selection, receive positive remarks, significant drawbacks, particularly concerning its cash-out policies and certain staff interactions, frequently overshadow these positives.
On the positive side, Ocean Sun Casino is noted by some reviewers for its aesthetic appeal and modern facilities. One user described it as being among the "top 2" casinos visited in Panama City in terms of ambience, decor, new-ness, and game selection. This suggests a potentially pleasant environment for those looking for a contemporary casino setting.
However, the actual gaming experience is marred by operational issues. Reviewers mention "sloppy dealers" who dropped cards multiple times, indicating a potential lack of professionalism or training at the tables. Furthermore, one frustrated visitor reported being denied entry to play blackjack for wearing a hat, a policy that was met with disbelief and contributed to their negative impression of an already "empty" establishment.
Customer service appears to be a significant point of contention. While one reviewer noted the reception staff as "nice," interactions with other personnel were less favorable. A casino guard was described as "very rude and doesn't speak any English," creating a barrier for international visitors and contributing to a negative first impression. Such experiences can quickly sour the overall visit, regardless of the casino's physical appearance.
By far the most prominent and frequently cited issue across multiple reviews is the casino's 5.5% cash-out tax. This tax is applied to all cash-out value, not just winnings or gains. This means if you buy in for $100 and decide to cash out $100 (or any amount), you will only receive $94.50. This policy has drawn strong criticism for several reasons:
Visitors are strongly advised to be aware of this tax and to "play accordingly and exchange as you go / need" to minimize its impact. The constant deduction significantly increases the "house edge" on any game, making it a less favorable destination for serious gamblers or those sensitive to unexpected fees.
Ocean Sun Casino in Playa Bonita offers a modern environment and a good selection of games. However, prospective visitors should be fully aware of the mandatory 5.5% cash-out tax on all withdrawn funds, as this is a consistent and major point of dissatisfaction among patrons. Additionally, be prepared for potentially inconsistent service quality and strict enforcement of certain rules like dress codes. For those prioritizing a transparent and customer-friendly financial policy, or anticipating frequent interactions with staff, this casino may fall short of expectations.
Don’t play, confirmed the 5.5% cash out taxes before starting. This tax law of 2015 was repealed in 2019 but they continue to “charge taxes.” Nice house edge on whatever game 🙄
Very sloppy dealers who dropped the cards multiple times. Also they have a tax of 5.5% on all cash out value. Note this is not on gains so play accordingly and exchange as you go / need.
Casino guard is very rude and doesn't speak any English. Only the reception guy was nice.
I visited four casinos in PC and this was definitely top 2 with Sortis in terms of ambience, decor, new-ness, game selection, etc. As with all casinos in Panama, you will get charged 5.5% tax on whatever you cash out, regardless of how much you bought in for. At least at Sortis they will give you $5 promo chips for every $100 you buy in for (which Ocean Sun doesn't do).
I would give zero but it’s not an option. They wouldn’t let me play blackjack with a hat on. Haha. Can’t figure out why your garbage casino is empty.
