The Mayagüez Resort & Casino, situated in Mayagüez city, Puerto Rico, is primarily known as a casino resort. However, recent guest feedback suggests a property with significant areas for improvement, despite a few notable positive features.
Accommodation & Room Experience 🛌👎
The most consistent and critical feedback pertains to the resort's accommodations:
- Condition & Cleanliness: Many guests describe rooms as "outdated" and even "shameful." One user encountered "2 big dead roaches on the carpet" and a pervasive smell of humidity. Rooms were generally perceived as not being as clean as one would expect.
- Comfort & Size: The "old section" of the hotel is specifically called a "disaster," featuring small rooms and beds that are uncomfortably small for taller individuals. Showers are frequently mentioned as "pretty uncomfortable."
- Missing Amenities: Basic amenities like an iron (or an ironing board to use with the iron), and a hair dryer were often reported as missing. Air conditioning units sometimes lacked temperature control, leaving rooms excessively cold.
- Operational Issues: Guests experienced key card malfunctions, leading to significant waits (up to an hour) for room access or changes. Furthermore, some reported online reservation prices almost doubling upon arrival.
Pool & Recreational Facilities 🏊♀️🎶
The pool area is frequently highlighted as a redeeming quality, though it has its own set of issues:
- Positive Aspects: The resort features a "nice pool with a 'River' and a slide," described as "excellent!" by one guest. The pools offer appropriate depths for both smaller children and adults.
- Towels & Rentals: There is conflicting information regarding pool towels; some reviews indicate they are provided, while others state they are "charged" for or simply "wasn't towels available." Tubes for the lazy river incur a $5 rental fee.
- Atmosphere Concern: A notable complaint involved "vintage regeaton music with all the explicit lyrics" being played without discretion in the pool area, which was deemed disrespectful and inappropriate for a family environment.
Dining Experience 🍽️
Dining options also present a mixed picture:
- Buffet Quality: The buffet received praise from one guest who found it "very good with several stations."
- Availability & Pricing Issues: However, another guest reported that the kitchen closed an hour and a half before closing time, leaving only the buffet available. Additionally, there were instances of children being charged full price for the buffet despite being advertised at half price.
- Restaurant Count: While some noted "several restaurants," another review specified "1 restaurant" and "2 bars."
Casino & Resort Offerings 🎰
As a casino, the Mayagüez Resort & Casino offers gaming facilities. While its presence is noted, specific details or experiences within the casino were not extensively highlighted in the provided reviews. Beyond the casino, the resort includes the aforementioned dining and bar options, as well as two pools.
Customer Service & Overall Impressions 👋
On the positive side, customer service generally receives favorable mentions, with one guest stating that "all the customer service is nice." However, this positive aspect is often overshadowed by operational inefficiencies such as long check-in and check-out lines, and delays in resolving room-related problems.
In summary, the Mayagüez Resort & Casino appears to have strong potential, particularly with its well-regarded pool and lazy river features. However, the recurring issues with outdated and poorly maintained rooms, inconsistent amenities, and occasional operational missteps significantly impact the guest experience. Many visitors expressed the sentiment that the hotel "clearly needs to be remodeled or at least updated" and concluded that it was not suitable for their families. While the casino aspect remains, the overall hotel experience seems to fall short of expectations for many guests.
I reserved two separate rooms for me and my teens. When I got there, the prices was almost double of what it said when reserving.Got to one room, there were 2 big dead roaches on the carpet. It smelled like humidity. The second room wouldn't open with the key so I had to wait almost an hour for a room change.Went to eat an hour and a half before closing! Kitchen was closed so only buffet available. Children were supposedly half price then got charged full price for they're plates. The rooms were so outdated it was shameful. The pool was the only thing that made it worth it. It was a nice pool with a "River" and a slide. Pools had appropriate height for smaller children and adults.
Hotel has two sections: old section and new section. Old section is a disaster. Small rooms, small bed for a guy of 6 feet. No ironing board in the room. Iron is available without table upon request. Air condition does not have temperature control working. Was freeze and no possibility to warm the room.
Well...not iron(hot) for clothes, no hair dryer, little bathroom. When we (wife and 3 kids) went to pool area there wasn't towels available and the most disrespectful of all vintage regeaton music with all the explicit lyrics in effect without any remorse whatsoever. 1st and last visiting this place; rating experience: 4/10.
Mothers Day weekend was alright, but the hotel clearly needs to be remodeled or at least updated. The shower is pretty uncomfortable. The rooms weren't really as clean as you could expect. If you reserve a room online, it doesn't include anything. It has 2 pools. The towels are charded. Casino. 1 restaurant. 2 bars. It just not for me and my family. We tried to make the best of it. Can't deny, all the customer service is nice.
This is a reasonably fancy resort. It has several restaurants but I only ate at the buffet. It was very good with several stations. The pool and lazy river are excellent! You can rent a tube for $5. Pool towels are provided. Check in and check out lines can be long.
