Nestled in the charming town of Monòver, Alicante, the Sociedad Cultural Casino de Monòver offers visitors a unique blend of historical ambiance and a surprisingly delightful dining experience. While its name might suggest a traditional gambling establishment, it's primarily a vibrant cultural society, complete with a public restaurant and exclusive areas for members, such as its elegant gardens and casino halls that evoke a bygone era.
The public restaurant at Sociedad Cultural Casino de Monòver is frequently highlighted for its exceptional value and quality. Many patrons laud the Menú del Día, often priced around €9, for offering an impressive array of options and generous portions.
Reviews consistently praise the attention to detail in the food offerings:
Service in the restaurant generally receives high marks for being friendly, attentive, and helpful, with staff often willing to explain dishes to diners.
However, it's worth noting an isolated, yet significant, critique regarding restaurant service and food quality. One review reported extremely long waiting times between courses (up to 4 hours for a meal) and described certain dishes, like rabbit paella and gazpachos, as subpar. This suggests that while most experiences are highly positive, there might be occasional inconsistencies in the restaurant's operation.
Beyond the culinary offerings, the "Casino" itself is celebrated for its distinctive atmosphere. Patrons describe a feeling of well-being upon entering, attributing it to the large, well-ventilated spaces that harken back to its historical roots. The presence of a spacious garden adorned with trees adds to the serene and pleasant surroundings.
For those interested in history and local culture, the venue offers a fascinating glimpse into the past. It's easy to imagine the vibrant gatherings, cultural meetings, grand parties, and dances that once took place within these walls, making a visit a truly immersive experience.
An important convenience noted by visitors is the establishment's wheelchair accessibility, ensuring that a broader range of guests can enjoy its offerings.
The Sociedad Cultural Casino de Monòver emerges as a highly recommended destination in Alicante, primarily for its excellent value restaurant and its unique cultural appeal. Despite one reported instance of poor service and food, the overwhelming majority of feedback highlights delicious, affordable meals served by friendly staff within a charming, historically rich setting. It's a place that promises a pleasant visit, whether you're seeking a satisfying meal or a step back in time.
Our first visit to the public restaurant (not the casino and gardens which are for members). We will be back for sure.Menú del día with 3 options for the 1st and 2nd course. Served with a salad, bread. Includes a drink and the option of coffee or desert. Great value sat €9.The salad was good quality and I want to know where they buy their bread from. We had pasta salad and chicken soup for starters. Both very good portions. The pasta salad was packed with several fish and feta cheese. The chicken soup came with noodles, chicken, croutons and an egg. Both were very tasty. We all opted for the escalope for main, which was well prepared and came with some nicely cooked veg, egg and chips. There was the option of several fresh fruits or the usual tarts / flans for desert. The waiter was very good (especially as he was by himself). Happy to explain the different dishes to us and attentive too.Wheelchair accessible too.
Being at the Monóvar Casino gives a feeling of well-being. Large, well-ventilated spaces.Large garden with trees.Going back to the past imagining the gatherings, cultural meetings, great parties and dances...it is inevitable when being in this pleasant place.
The restaurant... terrible... the dining room almost empty... a fixed menu... and between courses... hours... the coffee... it takes less time to go in person to the plantation, harvest, roast and serve... rabbit paella... 1 out of 5, gazpachos... inedible. Almost 4 hours to eat... desperate. Good atmosphere, terribly bad service
