Pause&Play Guide and Review

Located in the vibrant city of Marbella, Pause&Play positions itself as a multifaceted entertainment venue, with its primary offering being a casino. Beyond the gaming, it also features attractions like bowling, aiming to provide a comprehensive leisure experience. However, recent visitor feedback reveals a significant disconnect between the intended fun and the actual customer experience, primarily revolving around a notoriously strict entry policy and inconsistent service.
Entry Woes: The Unyielding Passport Rule π
Perhaps the most prominent and frustrating issue for potential visitors is the establishment's rigid entry requirement. Multiple reviews highlight instances where individuals, including families with children looking to bowl, were refused entry for not possessing a physical passport. This policy appears to be enforced even when other forms of photo identification (like a driving license, even for decades-long residents) are presented, leading to considerable disappointment and wasted journeys. One reviewer noted being denied entry for bowling at 1 PM on a Sunday due to lack of passports, while another family of seven faced the same refusal. This strict interpretation of ID rules, without apparent flexibility or explanation, significantly hampers the ability of many to access the venue's amenities.
Customer Service and Amenities: Room for Improvement π
Beyond the entry hurdles, several visitors have reported less-than-ideal experiences regarding customer service and available amenities once inside:
- Unwelcome Atmosphere: One reviewer described feeling "unwelcome and awkward," leading them to leave within minutes of entry.
- Limited Bar Selection: A notable complaint was the lack of sparkling wine options (cava or champagne), which is a significant oversight for a casino environment where celebrations might occur.
- Lack of Table Service: Guests attempting to order multiple drinks had to actively request a tray to transport them, indicating a general absence of dedicated table service.
- Food Quality: While only one specific comment, the description of nachos as "designed by a sadist" suggests potential issues with the food offerings.
The Concept: A Glimmer of Potential π
Despite the considerable frustrations, the underlying concept of Pause&Play does resonate with some visitors. The idea of combining gaming with family-friendly activities like bowling is seen as appealing and much-needed in the area. When guests are able to gain entry and overcome the initial hurdles, there is potential for an enjoyable time, particularly in the bowling alley. However, the current operational challenges overshadow this positive potential.
Overall Impression and Advice
Pause&Play in Marbella presents a dichotomy: an attractive concept for entertainment and leisure, but severely hampered by its execution. The stringent passport-only entry policy is a major deterrent, causing unnecessary inconvenience and disappointment for many. Furthermore, the reported inconsistencies in customer service, limited bar choices, and lack of basic service amenities detract from the overall experience.
Pros:
- Potential for a fun, multi-activity venue.
- Bowling is an attractive feature.
Cons:
- Extremely strict passport-only entry policy for all visitors, even for non-gambling activities like bowling.
- Reported poor customer service and unwelcoming staff.
- Limited beverage options at the bar (e.g., no sparkling wine).
- Lack of table service.
- Questionable food quality.
For those considering a visit to Pause&Play, it is absolutely essential to bring your physical passport, regardless of your age or the activity you intend to pursue. Be prepared for a potentially frustrating experience regarding entry and service, and manage your expectations accordingly. While the concept has merit, the current operational issues make it a challenging recommendation for a guaranteed enjoyable outing.
Place was empty just wanted to bowl with our children. Entry refused due to not having passports, no reason as to why we needed passports for a game of bowling!! 1PM on a Sunday afternoon?? Sort it out!
Visited yesterday with family of 7 hoping to have a game of bowling but were refused entry due to not having passports with us. We had other id but no reason was given why we were refused entry other than not having our passports. Pointless vist
