Casino Peralada

Casino Peralada, nestled in the charming city of Peralada, Spain, offers a unique blend of historical elegance and modern gaming. Housed within a beautiful small castle surrounded by meticulously kept gardens, this casino provides a distinctive experience that goes beyond typical gaming halls.

Atmosphere & Setting ✨

Visitors consistently praise the casino's elegant and sophisticated atmosphere. The "awesome castell" setting provides a medieval-like backdrop, seamlessly blending with the gaming floor's modern equipment. It's described as having a more refined ambiance compared to many other Spanish casinos, making it appealing even for those not primarily focused on gambling. The well-maintained outdoor spaces are a highlight, serving as a venue for large events and the popular Peralada music festival during summer.

Gaming Experience 🎰

While noted as "one of the smaller casinos in Spain," Casino Peralada offers a good selection of games. Reviewers enjoyed the "games itself" and found it a "nice place to play." A notable point is the €5 minimums on blackjack tables, which can be a draw for some players, and the dealers are often described as "fun." However, table games typically do not open until 20:30, which some visitors found "very late." One review mentioned the temporary absence of poker due to a "covid situation" at the time, but affirmed that "most games" were available.

Food & Drink 🍽️

The casino boasts a "good restaurant" and a bar, with reviewers "loving the food" and "drinks." It’s clear that the culinary offerings are a significant positive aspect of the experience. However, an important point of contention is the policy of charging for water, specifically €3 for a glass, which some visitors found surprising and unfavorable, especially given that patrons are spending money on games.

Staff & Service 😊

The staff at Casino Peralada consistently receives high marks for their professionalism and friendliness. Visitors noted that "the staff was really friendly too" and "All staff are very professional and friendly," contributing positively to the overall guest experience.

Important Considerations for Your Visit πŸ“

  • Passport Requirement: Be aware that a passport is strictly required for entry, even if you are a resident of Spain with local ID (e.g., NIE) or other forms of identification. This policy has led to unfortunate experiences for some travelers who were denied entry without their physical passport.
  • Table Game Hours: Table games typically commence operations later in the evening, at 20:30. Plan your visit accordingly if your primary interest is in table gaming.
  • Water Cost: Expect to pay for beverages, including bottled water, which is charged at €3 per glass.

Overall, Casino Peralada offers an elegant and enjoyable casino experience within a unique historical setting. Its strong points include the beautiful ambiance, friendly staff, and quality food, though visitors should be mindful of the strict entry requirements and late opening hours for table games.

Note for any Swiss travelers: you cannot enter this establishment (not even for a drink) without your passport. I had the unfortunate experience (even though I had my Swiss ID card w/picture and my NIE, as I'm a resident of Spain). I must admit that I do not bring my passport with me everywhere I go, especially for an evening of opera. Lesson learned!

Average rating because I am not a big fan of Casinos, but if I where I would probably rate higher :-) The place is a small Castle surrounded by very nice gardens, and all the outdoor spaces are well kept. The Casino itself is worth visiting even when you do not gamble, because its mediaval-like interiors are nicely blended with black-jack and roulette tables and other gambling "apparel". They also offer a private club, a restaurant, a bar and also a place for large events celebration outdoors. In the summer, this is also the place where the Peralada music festival takes place. All staff are very professional and friendly.

This is one of the smaller casinos in Spain, but it has a more elegant atmosphere than most others. They don’t open their table games until 20:30, which is very late, but on the up side they have 5 euros minimums on the blackjack tables and the dealers were fun. On the down side, they charge even for just a glass of water, and its 3 euros. I don’t understand why anyone would think its a good idea to charge customers that are spending lots of money for water.
