Casino Santa Cruz

Casino Santa Cruz, located in the vibrant city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain, presents a rather mixed experience for its visitors. While some aspects are praised, particularly by poker enthusiasts, others draw significant criticism regarding staff professionalism, language accessibility, and the general casino environment.

The Poker Room: A Bright Spot ✨

For those specifically seeking a poker game, Casino Santa Cruz appears to offer a worthwhile experience. Described as "nice, small, and cosy," the casino hosts a 2/4 cash game. Key details for poker players include:

  1. There is typically one table only.
  2. The game operates with a timed rake: a minimum buy-in of 100€ 15€ commission for two hours of play. Subsequent two-hour sessions incur a 10€ commission.
  3. Games run every day from 8 PM onwards.
  4. Players can reserve a seat at the table every day at midnight for the following day. Without a reservation, participation may involve a draw.
  5. The table accommodates a maximum of 10 players.

Players have noted a positive atmosphere in the poker room, with "a lot of laughter at the table" and "very friendly people."

Areas for Improvement: A Less Shining Experience πŸ“‰

Outside of the dedicated poker scene, the casino faces several notable drawbacks, particularly for non-Spanish speaking visitors or those engaging with other table games and slot machines.

Staff Professionalism and Treatment 😠

A significant point of contention revolves around the conduct of dealers, especially at roulette tables. Some visitors have reported receiving unsolicited advice on betting, even being told they are "betting wrong." More concerning are allegations of unequal treatment towards young women learning the game, with dealers reportedly giggling, taking pity, judging, and staring, rather than maintaining professional conduct. This lack of professionalism creates a discomforting environment for some patrons, leading to feelings of being judged rather than enjoying the game in peace.

Language Barrier πŸ—£οΈ

Many English-speaking visitors have expressed considerable disappointment due to a prevalent language barrier. Communication at tables, particularly blackjack, is reported to be "mostly on Spanish," with some guests finding that "no one in the casino could speak any English." This significantly detracts from a tourist-friendly environment and can make the experience challenging and less enjoyable for international visitors.

Casino Size and Vibe πŸ›οΈ

The casino is consistently described as "very small" and having a "weird vibe." Some found the atmosphere to be "quiet" and "not fun," with an overall impression of being "horrible" and "like going back in time."

Dated Machines and Service Issues 🎰

Slot machine players have noted "dated machines" that require an attendant to retrieve winnings, leading to waiting times. Furthermore, the practice of charging for drinks at blackjack tables and presenting the bill only after play has concluded is considered "very uncommon" and unprofessional by some, who expect bills to be brought with the drink or for drinks to be complimentary for players.

Conclusion

Casino Santa Cruz appears to be a viable option for serious poker players looking for a friendly cash game. However, for those seeking a broader casino experience, particularly if they are not fluent in Spanish or expect modern amenities and highly professional service, it may fall short of expectations. The persistent issues with staff behavior, language barriers, and the dated general ambiance suggest that potential visitors should manage their expectations accordingly.

So basically if you are not English, the dealers at the roulette will talk to you and telling you every round that you are betting wrong or that you should do this and that. Which is fine for some, but If you are also a young woman, learning the game, they don’t treat you equally like a young man learning the game. They giggle and take pity on you. They judge you and stare at you. It is a shame, because we are not anymore in the Middle Ages. Let me lose or win my money in peace, and act professionally. This is a 5 stars hotel, not a shabby old pub. Shame on you. I’ll never go back, and tell my friends not to!

Nice small and cosy casino, if you are looking for a poker game come and play, it's a 2/4 cash game. One table only with 3 games timed rake, minimum buy in 100e+15e commission for 2 hours of play, every next game 10e commission if you want to play another 2 hours. Games are running every day from 8pm onwards. You can reserve seat at the table every day at midnight, to make sure you get a sit at the table next day, otherwise you might have to participate in a draw. 10players max.A lot of laughter at the table, very friendly people.Good luck!

Very small casino, weird vibe. Ordered drink on blackjack table and I was brought the bill after I finished with playing which is very uncommon practice. Drinks for players shall be free. If they are not free, you shall bring the bill with the drink and not wait for someone to stand up to bring the bill. Communication on the table is mostly on spanish which is not turistic friendly environment. Quiet, Not fun
