Great Northern

Located in the vibrant city of Liverpool, United Kingdom, Great Northern is identified as a primary type of place: a casino. However, a review of user feedback suggests a more diverse and at times, conflicting, range of experiences, indicating that "Great Northern" might refer to a larger complex housing multiple businesses, rather than solely a dedicated gaming establishment.

What Visitors Say About Great Northern 🗣️

The feedback from recent visitors presents a highly mixed bag, indicating that "Great Northern" might encompass several distinct businesses or that experiences vary wildly depending on which part of the venue is visited.

  1. For Gaming & Entertainment Seekers 🎲

    • One user enthusiastically describes it as an "awesome place for late night games and drinks!" This aligns best with the designated "casino" type, or at least a lively entertainment venue.
    • Another review highlights "axe throwing" as an activity, praising the "great staff that guides and instructs you." This points to a diverse range of active entertainment options available within or connected to the Great Northern complex.
  2. Challenges & Areas for Improvement 📉

    • Some aspects draw significant criticism, particularly concerning maintenance and amenities. A very negative review describes a cinema within the complex as "the most run down cinema I’ve been in," detailing "all seats have stains," "missing head rests," and "popcorn all over the floor." The reviewer even suggests needing "a shower after going here," indicating a severe lack of cleanliness and upkeep.
    • For the axe throwing area, a visitor noted a "lackluster selection of drinks" and "little heating," making the space "just a tiny bit warmer than outside." Furthermore, the "toilet is in another building," which is a notable inconvenience.
    • A broader sentiment suggests that "this place hasn't quite been the success that it could have been" over the years. Despite having a "great location, nice space and architecture," it reportedly suffers from "not enough footfall to gain traction business wise," which is a "shame because there are some lovely places to go to here!" This suggests a systemic issue with drawing crowds to the entire complex.
  3. Unexpected Offerings & Future Prospects 🏰

    • Curiously, one highly positive review describes "beautiful grounds and historic main Georgian mansion, comfortable rooms, and delicious food served in a magnificent dining room," mentioning a "thoroughly enjoyable stay." This description is highly incongruous with a typical city casino or entertainment complex, suggesting either a misattribution of the review or that "Great Northern" is a much larger, more diverse property than its primary categorisation indicates, perhaps even including accommodation or event spaces.
    • There's also forward-looking information: "plans are in to turn this site into a new commercial and residential area whilst keeping the historic facade." This indicates ongoing development and potential future changes for the overall site. Visitors are also encouraged to "explore" and "visit the local shops especially along the Mews," further reinforcing the idea of a multi-use district.

Overall Impression and Recommendation 🤔

Based on the collective user feedback, Great Northern in Liverpool appears to be a multifaceted site offering various activities, from potential gaming (implied by "late night games") and axe throwing to even a cinema and other retail experiences. While it seems to boast a great location and interesting architecture, the consistency of quality, maintenance, and overall visitor experience appears to vary significantly across its different components.

Prospective visitors primarily interested in the "casino" aspect should be aware that the available reviews cover a much broader range of activities and experiences, some of which are quite negative concerning facility upkeep. It's advisable to specify which part of Great Northern you intend to visit and perhaps seek more targeted, up-to-date reviews if available for that specific establishment. For those looking for a general entertainment hub, be prepared for a potentially mixed experience, where some areas are well-regarded for staff and activities, while others may suffer from a lack of maintenance or basic amenities.

Through the years, this place hasn't quite been the success that it could have been; great location, nice space and architecture but not enough footfall to gain traction business wise. Which is a shame because there are some lovely places to go to here!Fortunately (we hope), plans are in to turn this site into a new commercial and residential area whilst keeping the historic facade.Until then, this place still offers an interesting time to explore. Decent photo opportunities and also do visit the local shops especially along the Mews.

Great staff that guides and instructs you with the axe throwing.Lackluster selection of drinks. The space has little heating so it's just a tiny bit warmer than outside. The toilet is in another building.
