Grosvenor Casino in Newcastle upon Tyne presents a diverse experience for visitors, garnering both high praise and significant criticism from recent patrons. While some highlight its appeal as a social hub with excellent service and good value, others point to a notable decline in standards and concerning operational issues, particularly within its gaming areas.
Many visitors commend Grosvenor Casino Newcastle for its friendly and attentive staff. Reviews frequently mention the staff as a strong positive, enhancing the overall experience. One patron enthusiastically noted, "Staff are great," with another adding, "Staff are very friendly." This consistent positive feedback on staff suggests a dedicated team providing good customer service.
Beyond gambling, the casino is also seen as a "Great place for socialising," making it suitable for various occasions, including "Wedding Anniversary Xmas Dinner and probably for New Year's Eve." This indicates a welcoming atmosphere that extends beyond the gaming floor.
The culinary offerings also receive positive mentions. The food is generally considered "good," with particular emphasis on their "Cinema Meal deal." This deal, priced at ÂŖ12 for a movie, a pint, and a main meal (with a small extra for steak), is described as "A Bargain" and "Excellent value," suggesting it's a popular and worthwhile option for a night out.
However, recent reviews paint a less flattering picture regarding the casino's upkeep and specific gaming setups. One highly critical review laments, "It used to be a nice place to go to, but not any more."
The poker facilities, in particular, come under heavy fire. One player stated it was "The worst poker setup I've ever experienced," describing it as an "absolute shambles." Issues included chips being put into play during re-entry without payment, leading to players being "blinded out" unfairly. This suggests the poker experience falls significantly short of "other G casino standards."
Grosvenor Casino Newcastle appears to be a venue with a split personality. Its strengths lie in its dedicated staff and the value offered through its dining deals, making it a viable option for social gatherings and a casual meal-and-movie night. However, prospective visitors should be aware of reported issues concerning cleanliness, a potentially declining atmosphere, and management practices. For serious poker players, the current setup may be a significant deterrent. It seems the casino has work to do to regain its "nice place" reputation and ensure a consistently high standard across all its offerings.
Great place for socialising not just for gambling. Staff are great and good food also. We are going for our Wedding Anniversary Xmas Dinner and probably for New Year's Eve.
It used to be a nice place to go to, but not any more. Lots of kids, toilets reek, sticky carpets. They have replaced a nice seating area with cheap looking and loud talking roulette machines. Staff are lovely and attentive, but managers are rude, abrupt and dismissive. They actually go to you to ask if you want to pay to "reserve" a machine, just because it is due to pay out.... !Like I said, it USED to be a nice place, but not anymore.
Cinema Meal deal is a Bargain. ÂŖ12 each for movie, a pint and main meal (extra ÂŖ2 for rump steak). Excellent
The worst poker setup I've ever experienced. I won't be back. I entered the Texas hold'em tournament and during my re entry I had to get cash from the cash machine just 20 yards away on my return a set of chips I had not yet paid for where in play and I had been blinded out loosing a small chunk of what was already a short starting stack. The setup here is just an absolute shambles. Needs a lot of work to get to other G casino standards.
