Located at the vibrant end of the iconic Atlantic City boardwalk, Tropicana Atlantic City is a sprawling casino resort known for its extensive amenities and prime location. As a primary casino destination, it aims to offer a complete entertainment package, from gaming to dining and relaxation. However, recent guest experiences paint a picture of a property with significant highs and notable lows.
Overall Impressions: A Tale of Two Stays 🏨
Visitors to Tropicana often find their experience varies wildly. Some guests report an enjoyable stay with comfy beds, clean rooms, good food, and great energy, praising the resort's ability to rectify initial issues. They appreciate its position on the boardwalk, offering a full experience of Atlantic City. Others, however, describe a far less pleasant visit, citing significant issues with room quality, basic amenities, and customer service, leading them to declare they would "NEVER. AGAIN." stay at the hotel.
Location & Facilities: Everything Under One Roof (Eventually) 🗺️
Prime Location & Extensive Offerings:
One undeniable strength of Tropicana is its location. Being at the southern end of the boardwalk allows guests to immerse themselves fully in the unique atmosphere of Atlantic City. The resort itself boasts a vast array of amenities, with one reviewer noting that "you can find everything you could possibly desire." From diverse restaurants to the bustling casino floor and various entertainment options, the property is designed so guests "never have to leave."
Navigation Challenges:
The sheer size of Tropicana, while offering a wide range of facilities, can also be a drawback. Some guests found it "a bit confusing for the 1st day of your stay" to efficiently find their destinations. This extensive layout, while impressive, can lead to initial disorientation.
Room Comfort & Amenities: A Discrepancy in Quality 🌡️
This is arguably the most polarized aspect of guest feedback:
- Room Quality: While some guests found their rooms to be clean and comfortable with comfy beds, others were severely disappointed. Descriptions ranged from rooms being "run down," "dated," and feeling like they were furnished with "random furniture," to being worse than motels.
- Environmental Comfort: A recurring and significant complaint revolves around room temperature control. Guests reported a complete lack of a functional thermostat, leading to either blasting heat or air conditioning with no in-between. Several guests experienced extreme discomfort due to no working air conditioning, with fans blowing only hot air, making sleep impossible for multiple nights.
- Unpleasant Odors: Sadly, several reviews highlighted pervasive and unpleasant smells within the hotel and rooms, including "wet dog," a combination of "weed and moldy wet something," and general stale odors.
- Lack of Basic Amenities: A major point of frustration for many was the apparent absence of microwaves, not just in rooms but "everywhere" in the hotel. This, coupled with "ridiculously high" food prices and large portions from restaurants, led to feelings of wastefulness and greed. Additionally, guests found it challenging and expensive to obtain water, with no free drink stations or water fountains in the casino or hotel, and bottled water costing $4.25 at stores. Non-functional vending machines further compounded this issue.
- Noise & Privacy: "Paper thin" walls and doors were reported, allowing guests to hear neighbors "as if they were sitting next to me," significantly impacting privacy and quiet enjoyment.
Service & Safety: Room for Improvement 🛎️
Customer Service:
Guest experiences with service were mixed. While some appreciated how initial issues were fixed and found cleaning staff to be friendly and helpful, others encountered "horrible customer service," particularly at checkout where staff showed no interest in guest satisfaction or feedback.
Safety & Environment:
Concerns were raised about the hotel's safety, with reports of "no restrictions in elevator access" and people "smoking weed all over the casino and hotel," contributing to the unpleasant atmosphere and raising safety questions for some visitors.
Final Thoughts: Manage Your Expectations 🎲
Tropicana Atlantic City stands as a testament to the grand vision of casino resorts, offering an impressive array of entertainment, dining, and gaming options in a prime boardwalk location. It can certainly provide a memorable and fun experience, especially for those prioritizing location and amenities. However, prospective guests should be aware of the significant inconsistencies in room quality, climate control, and basic amenities. While some guests have fantastic stays, others face considerable discomfort and frustration. It appears that a stay at Tropicana can be a gamble in itself, not just on the casino floor, so managing expectations regarding room comfort and essential facilities is advised.
This was my first time in Atlantic City and I’m glad that I chose this hotel was little issues in the beginning, but they definitely made it great when they fixed it. I definitely will stay here again. It’s at the end of the boardwalk so when you start to walk, you get the full experience of the boardwalk, which was great. I’m not a gambler so I really don’t have much to say about the casino, but everything else was good me and my boyfriend enjoy for his birthday. 8/10!!!!! Comfy beds clean room good food and great energy best type of trip
NEVER. AGAIN. My husband and I booked a room for our anniversary weekend as well as book my daughter a room for her basketball tournament, figuring we’d be out of our room more than in with the proximity to the boardwalk and the weather forecast. We were given a room in the West tower on Friday night, and I have to say I’ve stayed in nicer motels than this! Incredibly disappointed. There was no thermostat in the room, either the heat was blasting or the air conditioning was blasting, there was no in between. No microwave, you buy expensive food and can't heat it up. overall the room felt like they hurriedly threw a bunch of random furniture in a room so they could put someone in it.Walls and door were paper thin I could the people next door as if they were sitting next to me. For the amount of money I paid I expected more, not to mention customer services was horrible. This is one hotel I will not spend my money on again. At checkout there was no question about why we were leaving, if everything was okay, how can we improve your stay, just handed me my folio paperwork and that was it. No wonder AC is dying.
This is a run down hotel. Rooms are dated and ours smelled like wet dog. Rooms don’t get cleaned unless you call I guess otherwise you get fresh towels- which is fine- we just didn’t know. The cleaning staff were friendly and helpful. So sad that the hotel intentionally took out microwaves…not just in the rooms but everywhere! Vending machines dont work either. With food prices here ridiculously high and an Italian family style restaurant downstairs that serves in huge portions it’s just wasteful and greedy.Good luck finding water too. Nowhere to be found except for $4.25 at one of their stores. Not a drink station anywhere in the casino either. No water fountain either - which I actually think is against ADA.Hotel in general is not safe. No restrictions in elevator access and people smoking weed all over the casino and hotel. The entire place stinks of a combo of weed and moldy wet something. I would have given one star but the showers were good and the housekeeping staff were kind. No way these other reviews are real that’s brag about the hotel being great and beautiful.
The amenities are exceptional! You can find everything you could possibly desire... eventually! The one downside to a new patron will be finding your destination efficiently! There is so much packed into this hotel that it can be a bit confusing for the 1st day of your stay, but once you're acclimated to the layout, you never have to leave!!!
I stayed at Tropicana hotel for 4 nights and overall everything was pretty good. The only big complaint I have is that there was no air conditioning in the room I stayed in and it was extremely hot and uncomfortable to sleep in for all 4 nights. They did have a fan but that fan was blowing out hot air the entire time. I probably won’t ever book a room there again just for the simple fact I like being comfortable when I go on a vacation and have to sleep somewhere for 4 nights. I will also mention that when I did call the front desk they told me to use the thermostat to turn the fan down to 60 degrees which did absolutely nothing at all and I talked to many other people who were staying at that hotel who had the same issue. I’m hoping they fix this issue because this is a great location to party at and be at the casino with all the great restaurants just NOT TO SLEEP AT!
