The Sportsbook at Ameristar East Chicago Guide and Review

Located within the Ameristar East Chicago casino, The Sportsbook offers visitors a dual experience: a place to potentially wager and an eatery to enjoy a meal. Reviews indicate a varied experience, highlighting both strong points and areas that could benefit from improvement.
👍 The Highlights: Stellar Service and Savory Bites
- Exceptional Sports Viewing Experience: One of the most praised aspects is the staff's proactive and attentive approach to sports. Visitors wearing sports attire have reported staff automatically putting relevant games on every visible TV, even going as far as asking if specific games were desired on particular screens. This level of personalized service for sports enthusiasts is highly commendable.
- Food Favorites: While food quality can be inconsistent, several items receive high marks:
- The Pizza: Described as a "Homer Simpson drooling moment," the pizza stands out as a delicious option.
- Wings: The garlic parmesan and honey BBQ wings are consistently praised as delicious.
- Baked Ziti: Enjoyed across multiple visits with different variations, indicating a satisfying and versatile dish.
- Nachos: Portions are generous, reportedly enough for four people, making them great for sharing.
- Flavored Lemonades: These are also noted as good choices for beverages.
- Quick Lunch Option: For those looking for a fast and satisfying meal, The Sportsbook is considered a great place for a quick lunch, especially with the favored wing and nacho options.
👎 Areas for Improvement: Inconsistent Quality and Service
- Food Inconsistency: Not all food items receive glowing reviews. Some visitors reported:
- Burgers: Described as lacking flavor or being overcooked.
- Chicken: Criticized for being cold and not very tasty.
- Service Lapses: While some staff are lauded for their attentiveness, there are instances where waitstaff has been described as inattentive.
- Casino Floor Experience Concerns: It's important to note that as a casino-affiliated venue, issues unrelated to the food or primary Sportsbook function can impact the overall perception. One review specifically cited significant problems with a floor supervisor and a dealer making mistakes with money, leading to a negative gaming experience that prompted the guest to leave for another casino. This suggests that while the dining aspect might be good, the broader casino environment may have issues.
⭐ Overall Recommendation
The Sportsbook at Ameristar East Chicago appears to be a mixed bag. For sports fans, the dedicated attention to showing games and the welcoming atmosphere is a significant draw. The pizza, wings, and baked ziti are noted as strong culinary choices. However, potential visitors should be aware of possible inconsistencies in food quality for other menu items and variations in service attentiveness. Furthermore, those looking to engage in the casino aspect should be mindful of reported issues with floor supervision and dealer conduct.
If you're seeking a casual spot to catch a game with good wings or pizza, The Sportsbook could be a great fit. If a consistent dining experience across the entire menu or a seamless casino operation is your top priority, managing expectations based on the varied feedback is advisable.
Thank you for caring about our experience and making it great! We had a wonderful experience dining here on our first night’s stay, so much so that we returned for lunch the next day. Had we stayed more than two nights, we surely would’ve come back even a third or fourth time. We were in town to visit Wrigley Field to watch the Tigers play. The staff put baseball on every single TV that we could see. We didn’t even have to ask; they saw we were wearing baseball attire and just did it for us, then came over and asked if there was any particular game we wanted on any particular TV! How cool is that! I was very impressed, perhaps more so than at any other restaurant ever. I even got up to take a picture of all the TVs with baseball on them, but I couldn't fit them all into my camera view and when the waitress came over to the table with our food I sat down without ever taking the picture, wish I had to share with you.As for the food, it was delicious. We got the baked ziti both visits, with different variations each time.(I wish I could say the same about the hotel, but the hotel is terrible. Do not stay at this hotel; definitely read the reviews before booking!)
The burger didn't have lots of flavor but our server was madd nice. The next day for the pizza, O My Goodness! Homer Simpson drooling moment. The Lemonades with flavor were goody too.
Great place for a quick lunch! Wings are delicious. Garlic parm and the honey BBQ are the best! Nachos are enough for 4.
Chicken was cold. And not very tasty. Burger was over cooked. And waitress wasn’t attentive at all. First and last time there.
The floor supervisor are the worst I experience. I had an issue with a dealer that made several mistakes with my money on the line and it was brushed off 4/22 around 9:10 pm. This was so bad that I left and went to the HardRock for some excitement and fun
