The New York-New York Hotel & Casino offers a unique blend of Big Apple charm and Las Vegas excitement, consistently praised for its prime location on the Strip and a wide array of attractions that cater to both families and individuals. While it delivers on its promise of entertainment and convenience, some aspects of the stay could see improvement.
Accommodations & Comfort ๐
- Room Quality: Guests generally find the rooms to be clean and spacious. A "Soho room" with a view was highlighted for its 'L' shape wall of windows, offering glimpses of the pool and T-Mobile Arena. The "Players suite" was also noted as quite nice.
- Room Issues: Common feedback includes a lack of sufficient outlets in rooms, and some guests experienced non-working ice machines on their floors. Rooms facing the roller coaster can be subject to significant noise throughout the night.
- Elevators: Described as "weird" by one reviewer, they are universally noted for being fast and readily available.
- Hallways: Be prepared for potentially very long hallways to reach your room.
Dining & Entertainment ๐ฐ
New York-New York excels in its diverse entertainment and dining offerings, truly capturing the essence of a vibrant city street.
- Food Options: There's an abundance of dining choices, including casual options perfect for families. The addition of self-service kiosks for ordering food at some shops is a convenient feature, reducing wait times.
- Attractions: The hotel boasts a popular roller coaster, an arcade, and the Hershey's World store, providing plenty of activities. Live music performances are a regular fixture outside on the Strip.
- Casino & Atmosphere: The casino area is central to the experience, designed to evoke a bustling New York street with numerous shops. However, a significant recurring concern is the "TOO much smoke smell" that reportedly permeates beyond the casino floor, suggesting issues with air circulation, and is noted as heavier than at other Las Vegas casinos.
Service & Value ๐
Many guests find the New York-New York to be a reasonably priced option on the Strip, offering good value for its location and amenities.
- Front Desk & Staff: Front desk workers are generally described as nice and accommodating. In one instance, excellent customer service was provided when a family was moved to a better suite and compensated with a food credit due to noisy neighbors, showcasing a commitment to guest satisfaction.
- Check-in/Check-out: Guests appreciated early room availability and an easy bag-hold service upon checkout.
- Parking: The parking pass working at other MGM properties is a convenient benefit.
Areas for Improvement โ ๏ธ
- Water Access: A notable point of contention is the hotel's policy regarding water. Several reviews mention the removal of water fountains and staff being prohibited from refilling bottles, seemingly to encourage the purchase of bottled water (with a reported $1 charge for a single cup of tap water, and much higher for bottled water).
- Pool Experience: The pool is generally considered small and often has too much shade, limiting prime sunbathing opportunities. While heated, some guests found it less appealing due to its size and layout.
- Smoke Smell: As mentioned, the pervasive smoke smell, even outside the direct casino area, is a significant negative for many visitors.
Final Verdict
The New York-New York Hotel & Casino offers a fun and vibrant stay on the Las Vegas Strip, ideal for those seeking a lively atmosphere, diverse entertainment, and a wide range of dining options. It's a strong contender for both families and adults, especially if you plan to spend most of your time exploring the hotel's attractions and the Strip. While the issue of smoke smell and the water policy are definite drawbacks, the overall value, excellent location, and generally good service make it a noteworthy option for a Las Vegas getaway.
Overall, our room was nice. I booked a Soho room with a view and we had a corner room, with an "L" shape wall of windows. Our view was primarily in one section of the wall where we could see the pool and T Mobile arena. There are not enough outlets in this room. The room was clean and spacious. The ice machine closest to our room on the 10th floor was not working for part of our stay. The elevators were quick and regularly available without delay. There are lots of food options around the hotel. I had to pay $1 for a single cup of tap water. There's TOO much smoke smell. It resonates outside of the casino area, giving the impression that there's a malfunction with the air circulation or purifier. The smoke was not as heavy in any other casino that we visited. I appreciated that there was a room available for us to get into as soon as we arrived, which was earlier than the regular check-in time. Bag hold, upon check out, was easy to maneuver. We stayed Tuesday- Friday and the price was decent.
I really like this hotel. The inside looks like youโre walking the streets of New York with so many little shops. There are so many dining choices here and they now have a kiosk you can order you food without standing in line for some of these shops. There is a lot of entertainment outside as well with a stage and live music everyday right outside on the strip. The rooms are luxury but they are nice and we spend little time in the room. The pool was heated and there was always chairs available next to the pool. This was my second time staying here and I think itโs a fun place for people with our without families.
We had a long check in and the rooms were okay some had a good view. Some did not. We had a large group staying in multiple rooms in multiple towers of the building in comparison to some of the other hotels. I donโt understand why this one is so expensive sometimes but still a great stay would recommend it definitely go watch the mad Apple show. And hopefully one day they return to free parking.
Overall experience is pretty bad in this hotel.Pros: locations is very good, close to park mgm and grand mgm, you can walk to other hotels in the strips. They allow me to check in at around 2pm which is earlier than regular check in time. Free WiFi provided.Cons: I give $20 tips to front desk and ask if there any upgrade available, she said offer me a strip view. But we can see the picture itโs not( I might be good for people who like to see construction and airport). Iโm fine with that cuz I donโt think itโs that important for the view. When we get in to the room and stay around 5mins. We found the noise from outside is pretty obvious, maybe from the construction or other reasons. We felt uncomfortable for this. And I went back to front desk and requested to get another room. However, the hotel rejected out request. I still can hear noise from outside the window at night. Overall not recommend this hotel. I stay in planet Hollywood and rio on the first few day of the trip which is completely no problem (at lease they have hair conditioner, kettle, coffee maker, refrigerator). I hope this can be a reference for everyone
We didn't actually stay there.. we came in from Denver for our daughter's wedding. She was staying there...so the day of the ceremony we decided to use the valet to park our vehicle. The staff of the valet was so impressive! After the ceremony, I went back to the hotel to see if it was possible to access my vehicle so I could change out of wedding attire into something suitable to walk the strip. Not only were they super accommodating, they did so with a smile. Super grateful for awesome service!
