LaPlace Fair Grounds OTB & Casino Guide and Review

The LaPlace Fair Grounds OTB & Casino, located outside New Orleans, offers a local gaming and off-track betting experience. User reviews paint a mixed but generally positive picture, highlighting its intimate atmosphere and diverse gaming options, though some concerns about payouts and external environment are noted.
What We Liked â
- Friendly and Professional Staff: Visitors consistently praise the staff for being very kind, extremely courteous, and friendly. One reviewer noted a "low-key, friendly and professional" environment.
- Gaming Variety & Wins: The casino features a wide selection of penny, nickel, and quarter machines, alongside horse racing OTB. While winning is never guaranteed, one user had a remarkable experience, turning $5 into $236 from both slots and horse racing. Another observed a $2500 slot win.
- Comfortable and Clean Atmosphere: The interior is described as very neat, very tidy, and very comfortable. Users appreciate the cleanliness, with one specifically thanking the janitorial service. Although smoking is allowed, it was noted as "not heavy."
- Reasonable Concessions: Concessions are available in the back near the horse racing area, with charges deemed reasonable for the offerings. One lucky guest even received a free drink.
- Good Security (with some caveats): General security is described as "good" by some patrons.
Points to Consider â ī¸
- Inconsistent Payouts: While some have had success, other reviewers expressed frustration, stating they "can't never win" and considering stopping play due to perceived low win rates.
- Changes in Customer Rewards: Loyalty programs appear to have been impacted by external events. One user noted that the casino "used to reward their customers with $5 free play, but since CoVid they haven't."
- External Environment & Specific Security Concerns: A few users reported issues with "beggars there and sometimes ppl hanging outside which isn't safe." One specific security guard was mentioned as being "rude" and not attentive to patrons leaving late at night.
- Limited Drink Options/Pricing: One review mentioned pony beer costing $1, which might be a point of consideration for some.
In summary, LaPlace Fair Grounds OTB & Casino seems to be a comfortable and generally well-regarded local spot for a casual gaming experience, particularly for those interested in slot machines and horse racing. Its friendly staff and clean environment are definite draws, but potential visitors should be aware of the mixed reviews regarding payouts and occasional concerns about the immediate external area and security.
I did real good walked in not knowing what to expect. Everyone was very kind and extremely courteous I never bet on horse races before. Set up early wide selection of penny nickel and quarter machines. Walked in with $5. Walked out with 236. 200 from the slot. 36 from the horse race. They didn't charge me for a drink. Although I did notice there were concessions in the back where the horse racing is the does charge. The charges were reasonable though for just having a little Grill inside there. Everything was very neat very tidy very comfortable there was smoking but it wasn't heavy. Numerous people they're having a good time it was pretty full and it stayed that way the entire time I was there. It was very low-key friendly and professional and if I'm ever back in La Place I will come here again.
I don't know about everyone else but I am going to have to stop playing over there can't never win and it's 1$ for pony beer and only thing I really liked is it's location and it's cleanliness thanks to the janitor service they have
I like it there, the security is good, and they use to reward their customers with $5 free play, but since CoVid they haven't..
I use to love this place but now there are too many beggars there and sometimes ppl hanging outside which isn't safe and the security guard by the name of Edward Peoples does not watch you when you leave late at night... He's rude.
Has plenty of machines...my boyfriend and mysepf have won a coupke times...nothing big though. The other day i saw a man hit 2500 on Cowboy Up!! Friendly staff and security.
