Swamp Stop

Despite being categorized as a casino, Swamp Stop in New Orleans primarily operates as a truck stop and convenience center, currently undergoing significant renovations. Reviews from recent visitors highlight its efforts to provide essential amenities for professional drivers, including fuel, extensive parking, shower facilities, and quick food options. However, customer experiences show a wide spectrum, particularly concerning service consistency and the reliability of key amenities.

The Good 👍

  1. Recent Upgrades & Modern Facilities

Many recent visitors, with feedback as current as May 2025, have noted the ongoing remodel. The restroom facilities are described as brand new, offering a clean and updated experience. Additionally, the truck fuel island is reported to be complete and fully functional, indicating a commitment to modernizing the establishment.

  2. Ample & Well-Lit Parking

A significant advantage for truck drivers is the generous parking availability. Swamp Stop offers plenty of parking, with designated spots for at least 48-60 tractor-trailers, and the overall lot size suggests it can accommodate even more. Crucially, the parking lot is exceptionally well lit at night with new fixtures, enhancing safety and security.

  3. Quality Showers (When Accessible)

One very recent visitor (May 2025) lauded the showers, praising their great pressure and temperature control. This indicates that when functioning optimally, the showers are a significant asset for travelers seeking a comfortable break.

  4. Satisfying Food Options

The on-site food offerings have received positive remarks, with patrons enjoying "good chicken and poboys" for convenient and tasty meals.

  5. Standout Customer Service

While overall staff experiences are mixed, one employee, specifically "the young guy with the long hair," has been consistently singled out for providing excellent customer service, leaving a strong positive impression on repeat customers.

Areas for Improvement & Conflicting Reports 🚧

  1. Inconsistent Shower Access & Water Quality

This appears to be a major point of contention among truck drivers. Despite positive feedback from some, others faced considerable issues. Several reviews from early 2025 reported being denied shower access on multiple occasions due to explanations like "low water pressure" or specific time restrictions ("no showers until 10 PM"), leading to frustration and perception of unhelpful staff. Another user reported paying for a shower only to find the water was consistently cold and never warmed up, with no refund offered, leading to a "piss poor experience."

  2. Staff Customer Service Variability

While some staff members are commendable, other interactions have been described as unhelpful or even "shady," creating negative experiences for customers, particularly when essential services like showers are affected.

  3. Outdated Information & Environmental Concerns

An older review from early 2024 incorrectly stated the establishment was "out of business" and mentioned "no access to restrooms," along with issues like the entrance flooding and trash accumulation. While more recent reviews contradict the operational status and restroom availability, these older reports suggest a period of significant transition and perhaps ongoing challenges with consistent upkeep.

Overall Impression

Swamp Stop is clearly in a phase of revitalization, actively improving its infrastructure to serve its primary clientele of truck drivers. The significant investments in new restrooms, a functional fuel island, and well-lit, ample parking are strong indicators of progress. When services are delivered well, particularly the showers and helpful staff interactions, visitors report high satisfaction and a willingness to return. However, inconsistent service quality, especially regarding shower availability and temperature, remains a critical area for improvement. Prospective visitors, particularly professional drivers relying on specific amenities, should be mindful of these fluctuating experiences and might consider verifying availability if critical services are needed.

So I'll start by saying I'm not a frequent flyer here. I've been here twice. Once last summer during construction and this week of 5-20-25. Both times I've had a great experience. Some staff are more enthusiastic about customer service than others but they are all definitely colorful lol. The swamp stop has good chicken and poboys. I was able to use the showers on this visit and they were great. Good pressure and good temperature control. One employee stood out last trip and this trip and it's the young guy with the long hair. Excellent customer service. 10/10 would stop again. I'd drive 50 miles out of the way to come here for a break. Plenty of parking also. Great job team!

Remodel is still ongoing, showers I'm told are incoming, but not yet. Restroom facilities are brand new as of this post on 8/26/24. Truck fuel island is complete and functional. There are marked spots enough for at least 48-60 tractor trailer, but even the fastest view of Google maps shows the lot is capable of hold many more than that. The parking lot is extremely well lit at night with brand new light fixtures.

I drive trucks for a living. The first night I went here they told me I couldn’t get a shower because the water pressure was low but the pressure in the restrooms were just fine. They said there would be pressure at 10:00. How do you know exactly when there is going to be water pressure? The second night they had another excuse why I couldn’t take a shower but the showers worked fine all day. Then the lady asked me why I didn’t take a shower earlier in the day. What kind of crap is that? I work during the day. Then she said they don’t have showers till 10:00. Both times they acted kinda shady. I think someone just doesn’t wanna do their job. This is supposed to be a truck stop. I usually fuel up every morning before I start my day. That’s 150 to 200 gallons a day. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere. I would have given them 0 stars if I could have. Really piss poor experience here!!!!In reference to the owner that replied to my review I was there on the evening of 2/15/25 between 6:00pm and 6:15 Pm. That night the younger of the two ladies working the front desk told me that the water pressure was low. I told her I didn’t mind the pressure being low I just needed a shower. She then went get the maintenance person and he said the pressure would be low until about 10:00pm.The very next night on 2/16/25 the same two ladies were working again. I was there between 6:00 and 6:30. The older lady said there was no showers until 10:00 pm and asked me why I didn’t take a shower during the day. My company does a lot of work around here. A lot of us usually fuel up at your place. I haven’t gone back since and I’ve told a few of our drivers that we can’t get a shower there at night. I understand it’s hard to compete with bigger truck stop chains but it’s even harder when you have dead head employees giving your establishment a bad name. Thank you for responding to my review and I hope you get the issues with your employees resolved.

This place went out of business almost a year ago. There’s parking however it’s limited. There’s a Circle K, McDonalds, and a Waffle House near by. None of the current business have maps currently. The entrance will flood whenever it rains and trash is everywhere. There’s also no access to restrooms 🚽 so plan accordingly

Place is set up nicely and I was impressed until I bought a shower and the water was COLD when I stepped in. Couldn't really complete my shower because the water NEVER got even warm. The janitor went and checked and the water was just barely warm, so I asked politely for a refund and they said they don't give refunds. It wasn't about the money, I was working a campaign and needed a place for showers... this ain't it... piss poor experience!
