The Sportsbook

Located in the vibrant city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, The Sportsbook offers a unique blend of casino atmosphere and sports bar excitement. As a primary casino venue, it aims to cater to those looking to place bets while enjoying the action on the big screens. However, user experiences reveal a rather mixed bag, ranging from delightful dining and stellar service to frustrating waits and concerning policy enforcement.

The Good: Hits and Highlights πŸ‘

For many patrons, The Sportsbook delivers on its promise of a great game-day experience combined with satisfying cuisine. Here's what shines:

  1. Quality Food & Sports Ambiance: Visitors have praised The Sportsbook as an excellent spot to grab a bite and watch a game or fight. The kitchen seems capable of turning out impressive dishes, with one reviewer specifically highlighting a perfectly cooked ribeye. The overall environment is well-suited for sports enthusiasts looking to immerse themselves in the action.
  2. Exceptional Service (When It's On): Some guests report receiving top-notch service, characterized by staff who are friendly, welcoming, professional, knowledgeable, and courteous. Specific mentions of servers like Cindy and Dan underscore moments of attentive and pleasant interactions, contributing to a truly enjoyable dining experience. Patrons who experience this level of service often recommend the place wholeheartedly.

Areas for Improvement: Fouls and Frustrations πŸ‘Ž

Despite its potential, The Sportsbook also faces significant criticism regarding its service consistency, operational policies, and overall customer care:

  1. Inconsistent & Absent Service: A recurring theme in negative reviews is the severe lack of consistent service. Guests have reported instances of extended waits even with reservations and empty tables, being assigned a waitress who never appeared, and witnessing others seated after them receive service while they were ignored. This suggests a breakdown in staffing or table management, leading to considerable frustration.
  2. Questionable Policy Enforcement & Customer Care:
    • Smoking Policy: Despite prominent "NO Cigar Smoking" signs, some patrons have observed and reported casino security and management allowing cigar smoking right next to seating areas. This disregard for clearly posted rules creates an unpleasant environment for non-smokers and raises questions about management's commitment to their own policies.
    • News & Information Access: A particularly jarring incident involved a guest being refused a request to turn on national news during a significant breaking event, with staff citing a "no political news" policy. This rigid stance, even for national news, left the customer feeling that the establishment lacked "moral" and customer consideration beyond sports or gambling.
  3. Slow Service & Grumpy Staff: Beyond absent service, some experiences detail grumpy waitstaff and meals taking over an hour to arrive. Such delays and negative attitudes significantly detract from the dining and entertainment experience.

Final Whistle 🏁

The Sportsbook in Pittsburgh presents a dichotomy. When it hits, it offers a commendable experience with good food and attentive service, ideal for sports fans. However, its significant shortcomings in service consistency, policy enforcement (especially regarding smoking), and perceived lack of broader customer consideration can lead to highly disappointing visits. Potential patrons should be aware that their experience might vary widely. For those prioritizing a strict non-smoking environment or expecting responsiveness to national events on screens, alternatives like Rivers Sports Book (as suggested by one reviewer) might be a more consistent choice in Pittsburgh.

A great place to grab a bite and watch the game or fight. Service was great. The ribeye was cooked perfectly.

We arrived 10 minutes before our reservation, and we're told we had to wait until our time. Once seated there were at least 5 empty tables around us. But okay, we understood we were earlyOnce seated we were told the name of our waitress, who we never saw. Others that were seated after us gave their drink orders, received their drinks and gave their food orders. Still no waitress. We came on Thanksgiving, had not been to the casino in in years

Not very pleased with this place. Started out with a waitresses who was grumpy. Took some interaction and joking to get her to smile. Service was very slow, over a hour to get our meal. I icing on the cake though was our time here we got word that Trump was shot. I asked if they could turn the news on so we could see what was unfolding. I was told no because they don't partake in political news.......it wasn't political news, it was national news that could have affected our country. Doesn't matter what your political situation is, that was a situation that should have been shared with their customers. If forbid a situation like 9/11 happened I'm certain that they wouldn't air it on their televisions either. God forbid someone miss a round of a m.m.a fight or someone hit a baseball while our nation is dealing with a tragedy. I got up and left and will not be back. I can't support a business that has no moral.

Went to Bet and watch the games with a reserved table. Despite very prominent NO Cigar Smoking signs posted on bar wall, the casino security allow cigar smoking at the railing that lines sports book tables/leather seats. Even the manager did not seem to care when brought to his attention. This defeats the purpose or spirit of the clearly identifiable signage β€œinside” the sports book. If Allowing cigar smokers to stand at the railing next to tables/seating, then go all in and non smokers can avoid your business. I would recommend Rivers Sports Book in Pittsburgh if you need to deal with smoking. Much better atmosphere, gaming, and service is my opinion. Do not bother with Meadows Sports Book in Canonsburg, PA, go downtown to Rivers Casino
