Carson Nugget

The Carson Nugget, situated in Reno, Nevada, offers visitors a glimpse into traditional casino entertainment alongside its dining establishments. Reviews from recent patrons reveal a spectrum of experiences, highlighting both memorable aspects and areas that could benefit from enhancement.

πŸ‘ The High Points: Service & Notable Dining

  • Exceptional Customer Service: A consistently praised element is the dedication of the staff. Many reviewers found the team to be "very nice," providing "wonderful customer service." Special recognition goes to a bartender named Nate, hailed as the "best bartender ever." His lively demeanor and skill in making "pretty good drinks" significantly contribute to a positive atmosphere, even for those not hitting the jackpot. πŸŽ‰

  • Appreciated Culinary Offerings: The casino's restaurant has garnered positive feedback for specific dishes. The prime rib is frequently noted as being "on point," complemented by "real, not instant" mashed potatoes – a detail that resonates well with diners seeking quality. πŸ₯©πŸ₯”

  • Welcoming Ambiance: Despite some criticisms, certain visitors have described the casino as having "good energy" and being generally clean, fostering an inviting environment. ✨

πŸ‘Ž Areas for Improvement: Atmosphere & Accessibility Concerns

  • Pervasive Smoke Odor: A significant and frequently cited drawback is the strong presence of cigarette smoke. Reviewers have described the casino floor as "way too smoky," permeated by a smell akin to "20 year old cigarette smoke," which can make the gaming areas unpleasant or inaccessible for non-smokers. While a separate ballroom for shows was found to be acceptable, the main casino area remains problematic for many. πŸ’¨

  • Dated Interiors: Several comments indicate that the casino's decor and overall aesthetic feel "completely old and outdated." This can impact the perception of modernity and comfort for some guests. 🏚️

  • Limited Restaurant Hours: The accessibility of certain dining venues, such as Angeline's restaurant, has been a point of disappointment. One review noted it is "only open for 2 days a week for a few hours at a time," severely restricting opportunities for patrons to enjoy its offerings. ⏰

πŸ” The Awful Awful Burger: A Culinary Conundrum

The "Awful Awful burger," a dish with a notable history, sparks varied opinions. Originally an "iconic" item at an old Nugget casino on Virginia Street in Reno (which closed after COVID), a recent review indicates its reappearance at "the nuggets casino in Carson City NV." This reviewer found the Carson City version "a little bit better" than its Reno predecessor, describing it as juicy on a nice soft tasty bun with "good quality" meat patties and fresh condiments. However, despite its decent quality, the burger's price was considered high, leading the reviewer to suggest alternatives like Red Robin or Fuddruckers as potentially better value options. πŸ€”

Overall Impression: Weighing the Pros and Cons

The Carson Nugget in Reno presents a mixed experience. It shines in its customer service, particularly with dedicated staff like Nate, and offers quality traditional casino dining, such as the prime rib. However, prospective visitors should be aware of the strong cigarette smoke smell and potentially dated environment. While the "Awful Awful burger" holds historical intrigue, its current location (as per one review) and value proposition might be points to consider. Ultimately, if you appreciate friendly service and classic casino ambiance and are not deterred by smoke, the Carson Nugget could be a worthwhile stop. For those sensitive to smoke or seeking a more contemporary venue, these factors might be significant drawbacks.

So, The awful awful burger was iconic when it was located in Reno, NV. Back then it was located at the old nugget casino on Virginia Street across from the old Harrah's casino. That casino and luncheon restaurant was closed after COVID. It was fair, I guess you had to try it.Well the awful awful burger has reappeared at the nuggets casino in Carson City NV.Well I had to try it again. A little bit better than the one in Reno. It was juicy on a nice soft tasty bun. Condiments as you like. Comes plain with your choice of veggies and cheese. It was ok again. Meat patties were good quality, no need to add salt. Veggies, tomato, onion slice and lettuce were fresh, and again I was offered bottles of mustard, ketchup and mayonnaise.Fries were nice and crisp. Pickle on the side. For the price though I could have settled for red Robin, chilli's, Applebee's or any other restaurant that offers burgers. The heart attack burger restaurant in Las Vegas is a good choice or even Fuddruckers in Sparks NV is a better substitute.

What a great casino and restaurant. It was clean and the staff were very nice. It has good energy to it. The restaurant was on point with their prime rib. Their mashed potatoes are real, not instant. We will definitely be back!

I’ve never been more disappointed in a casino in my life. It’s completely old and outdated and smells of 20 year old cigarette smoke. The restaurant I was interested in trying is only open for 2 days a week for a few hours at a time ~ Angeline’s.

The place is way too smoky. I could not be in the casino because of the smoke smell. I went to a show in the ballroom and that was just fine.
