Tamarack Casino

Tamarack Casino, located in Reno, Nevada, positions itself as a primary gaming destination. User reviews present a varied picture, highlighting both commendable aspects and significant areas for improvement, particularly concerning atmosphere and dining consistency.

The Good: Dining Delights and Friendly Faces đŸŊī¸âœ¨

For many, Tamarack Casino serves as a cherished go-to spot, especially for its culinary offerings and welcoming staff. Reviewers frequently praise the food quality, often recommending specific dishes:

Beyond the plate, the casino's service often garners appreciation. Staffers are generally described as "always friendly" and polite, contributing to a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere, particularly in the sports bar area. One reviewer noted Tamarack as their preferred choice for simply wanting to "relax and have a good time." Additionally, the restrooms are commended for being "well maintained." For those who frequent the gaming floor, a positive sentiment of "always win" and encountering "friendly people" contributes to a positive casino experience.

Areas for Improvement: Smoke, Service, and Subpar Steak 📉đŸšŦ

Despite the positives, several recurring issues significantly impact other visitors' experiences, prompting some to remove Tamarack from their list of preferred destinations.

The Persistent Smoke Cloud đŸšŦ

Perhaps the most immediate and significant deterrent for some is the presence of cigarette smoke. One reviewer explicitly states, "You walk in the place and are immediately assaulted by the cigarette smoke cloud: in today's world, that is a deal breaker." This suggests a need for better ventilation or designated smoke-free zones to accommodate all patrons.

Inconsistent Dining Experiences đŸŊī¸

While some dishes are lauded, the dining experience, particularly at the Steak House, can be inconsistent and disappointing. A birthday dinner at the Steak House revealed several issues:

Another casual dining experience at the DC Cafe also noted a "very long wait for a simple salad and BLT," indicating potential service pacing issues beyond the Steak House. Furthermore, some visitors observed a significant increase, possibly "tripled," in the number of slot machines, which might contribute to a perception of the casino being overly focused on gaming at the expense of other amenities or comfort.

Conclusion

Tamarack Casino offers a compelling draw with its highly-rated breakfast and fish dishes, alongside a generally friendly staff and well-kept facilities. The sports bar provides a pleasant setting for relaxation. However, the pervasive issue of cigarette smoke and inconsistent service and food quality, particularly in its higher-end dining options, remain significant concerns. While some will continue to find it a reliable and enjoyable destination, others, especially those sensitive to smoke or seeking a premium dining experience, may find themselves looking elsewhere.

Added: Highly recommend Blackened Grilled White Fish Fillet. It's not blackened at all. Perfectly cooked and the meat was very tender. When I just want to relax and have a good time, Tamarack is my go-to. I like to sit in the sports bar and enjoy the food. The staffers are always friendly. The restroom is well maintained. I hope this place keeps the way it is.There are some constructions next door. Would someone please tell me what it will be? I'm just curious.

Wonderful restaurant. Our new favorite steak house. The food and service is excellent. The quality and price is incredible. Honestly other steak houses in town do not compare. I had prime rib with blue cheese melted kn top..delicious and I huge baked potatoe. The desert ice cream sundae bowl for two or more is spectacular. This is our new place for special occasions and just to wow friends . We will be back to celebrate our anniversary.

We had breakfast with my boyfriends daughter and we enjoyed the best Chicken Fried Steak and Eggs. Oh how we missed this place. It's one of our favorite stops in Reno when we go back home to visit or work. Our server was nice and polite a little slow paced. Perhaps he is new to the industry but we had an enjoyable time and appreciate his kind spirit. Thank you

Tamarack double-down'd on slot machines; maybe tripled the amount of them. You walk in the place and are immediately assaulted by the cigarette smoke cloud: in todays world, that is a deal breaker. Saw an extremely small coralle that is apparently the Steak area. We ate in the DC Cafe. Very long wait for a simple salad and BLT. The waitress was nice. Service was just OK. The food was good. We used to go to Tamarack a lot. Hadn't been there in years. Thought it had probably upgraded. Unfortunately, not. It's off our list.

We have dined at the Steak House at Tamarack before and had a pleasant experience, so when my husband chose it for my birthday dinner, I was looking forward to it. We arrived for a 7pm seating with another couple with whom we celebrate birthdays annually. We ordered drinks and decided to enjoy the relish tray and sourdough bread. When placing our orders, our waitress seemed to have some confusion. She mixed up my husband's prime rib order with the other man's order. They had ordered different sides. The meals were adequate but not at the expected quality level. They were served at suboptimal temperatures. The other woman in our group ordered salmon, which she described as dry. I ordered the Filet Mignon, which was lukewarm. Additionally, I had to request a beverage refill, and overall, the service did not meet our previous experiences. At the end of the meal, the waitress offered the two birthday celebrants a free dessert. After ordering, she delivered a dessert and sang Happy Birthday to a gentleman at the next table. However, when serving our desserts, she placed them on our table without any additional acknowledgment. Also, I found the steakhouse sundae for two difficult to eat from the brandy bowl it was served in; an open bowl might be more practical.Overall, the birthday dinner did not meet our expectations, especially considering the cost. However, the sourdough bread was excellent. It might be a LONG time before we return.
