The River City Casino Hotel in St. Louis, United States, presents itself as a luxurious gaming and lodging destination. Based on recent guest experiences, it generally garners positive feedback for its facilities and some aspects of its service, though there are notable areas for improvement, particularly concerning guest relations and certain operational issues.
Accommodations & Amenities π¨
Guests frequently praise the hotel rooms at River City Casino. They are consistently described as reasonably priced, clean, very spacious, and luxurious. Specific highlights include:
- Room Quality: Well-kept and clean, providing a comfortable stay.
- Space: Rooms are noted for their generous size.
- Bathroom Features: Excellent shower and water pressure are a recurring positive.
- Special Features: Some guests enjoyed "patio rooms," adding to the appeal.
However, one significant detractor from the hotel experience was an unresolved air conditioner issue. Despite multiple attempts to contact the front desk over a two-night stay, the problem persisted, leading to a lack of sleep for the guest. This highlights an inconsistency in maintenance and responsiveness from the front desk staff.
The Casino Experience π°
As a primary casino establishment, River City aims to impress, and largely succeeds in its physical presentation:
The casino floor itself is described as luxurious and well-laid out, with plenty of room, contributing to a comfortable gaming environment.
Regarding table games and slots:
- Blackjack: Patrons noted the presence of decent Blackjack games, specifically a Double Deck Shoe Delt table where the dealer hits a Soft 17, which is generally considered to have good odds. However, guests are advised to look out for 6 to 5 lower stakes games mixed into the pits, as these offer poorer odds.
- Craps: A Crapless Craps table was available, but it's important to note that this variation typically has poorer odds than a conventional Craps table.
- Video Poker & Slots: While it's hard to definitively judge slot machine payouts, guests did find Video Poker with reasonable pay tables.
Service & Staff Interaction π₯
Service at River City Casino Hotel appears to be a mixed bag, ranging from exceptional to concerning:
Positive Service Aspects:
- Many guests were "shocked how nice overall how great" the casino was, particularly highlighting amazing service from the bar, floor attendants, and rewards desk staff.
- Some travelers who frequent casinos globally found the overall service, food, and rooms to be on par with what they are "used to" and highly commendable.
Areas for Improvement:
- Front Desk Issues: Several reviews pointed to inconsistencies with the front desk. While some found staff "nice," there were instances where they were "not entirely helpful," giving the impression of wanting to "pass the buck/blame" and lacking a "service-oriented" approach, particularly concerning maintenance requests.
- Security & Parking: A significant negative experience involved the security team's handling of truck parking. Despite following what appeared to be a designated truck parking sign, a semi-truck driver received two large, vision-obstructing stickers on their windows for illegal parking, after allegedly missing a smaller "no semi parking" sign. The security team was also criticized for refusing communication and demonstrating a lack of professionalism and respect. This incident led to a strong vow from the guest to never return and to advise other drivers to avoid the location.
Location & Convenience π
The hotel is noted as being "not in the best of areas" by one reviewer, yet simultaneously described as "very convenient," suggesting its location offers ease of access despite its surroundings.
Conclusion
River City Casino Hotel offers a generally positive experience, particularly for those seeking a luxurious and spacious stay with a well-appointed casino floor. The hotel's rooms and many of its service staff (excluding some front desk and security interactions) receive high marks. However, potential visitors, especially those traveling with large vehicles, should be aware of possible inconsistencies in guest service and specific parking regulations. For gamblers, there are good options like specific Blackjack tables, but vigilance is advised regarding game variations with poorer odds.
I had a horrible experience as I stayed here many times without any issues and quite frankly staff is kind and I enjoy staying at River city. However in this occasion I had reserved for 2 nights for Sunday and Monday. They provided me with a corner room which I was not too fond of and checked in Sunday night without even using it. Monday I came back and spoke with the receptionist to inquire if they have rooms available and was told yes. Great! I requested to change room and was told by another receptionist he will have to check with the supervisor and I said sure Iβll wait. 2-3 minutes later he came back and said they cannot accommodate my request. I asked to speak to the supervisor Kim and when she came out and told me they had no room available. I was like wait I just confirmed with the receptionist they do have rooms and why canβt I change? She simply said we are full and thatβs for other guest to check in! My mind was blowing away when she told me that after I confirmed they had rooms available. Then after a few minutes later after back she simply told me because she said βNOβ and she walked back to her office. I stayed calm but felt so disrespected and advised the receptionist Iβll be leaving a review and complaint. I checked out without even utilizing the room at all! 5 minutes later after I left the property she called me advising me they have a room available and can switch me into it. At that time it was to late to play nice with me.
I was shocked how nice overall how great the River City Casino was. Room was reasonably priced, clean, and very spacious. Casino and Hotel were very luxurious. You could find some decent Blackjack games, but had to look. They have a Double Deck Shoe Delt table, where the dealer hits a Soft 17, that has good odds. Look out for a 6 to 5 lower stakes game, that's mixed into the pits. They had a Crapless Craps table open that has poorer odds than conventional Craps Table. Hard to judge how good the slots are, however you could find some Video Poker with reasonable pay tables. The overall casino floor is laid out well, with plenty of room.
I visited the River city casino on 5 17 of 2025. I was in a semi truck and parked in a truck parking area after following a four foot by four foot sign that said truck parking area. Upon leaving the casino I found that security had put not one but two six by eight stickers on both my windows saying I was illegally parked. I tried to contact security but they refused to talk with me. By putting the two stickers on my commercial vehicle they caused a blind spot on both sides of my truck which is illegal to do. You canβt drive with the stickers on the vehicle. I later saw a six by eight sign. That said no semi parking that I had obviously missed due its size. The lack of communication and respect for patrons by security is appalling. This could have been handled more professionally and they could have done better. I will never return and I will tell my 17000 fellow drivers and owner operators to avoid this place.
My family and I stopped on our road trip from Wisconsin to Oklahoma and stayed the night. The hotel is beautiful! However, we were met by very rude staff members in the casino. I understand it was busy and people are people and get crabby, but it's a little ridiculous yelling at someone (literally yelling) to get back in line because she didn't know how the line system works at the casino. We are from states away and it was very off-putting to yell rather than explain how the not-priority line works. They don't have those in Wisconsin. Who is in line, is up next. Bartenders weren't exactly awesome either.
Not in the best of areas however it is very convenient. The rooms are very well kept and clean. We had a patio room which was very nice. Shower and water pressure are fantastic. Front desk person was nice but not entirely helpful. Felt like they just wanted to pass the buck/blame. Not really service oriented.
