Casino Canberra Guide and Review

Casino Canberra offers a distinctive entertainment experience in the heart of Australia's capital. While generally described as being on the smaller side compared to some of the mega-casinos found elsewhere in Australia, it compensates with a unique and engaging vibe that many patrons appreciate. It's an ideal spot for those seeking a different kind of casino outing, particularly given its notable absence of poker machines.
Gaming Experience: Table Games & Tournaments π
A key characteristic that truly sets Casino Canberra apart is its deliberate absence of poker machines. This unusual feature contributes to a gaming environment focused entirely on table games, which reviewers consistently describe as a lot of fun. For regulars, becoming a member is highly recommended, as the casino frequently organizes engaging tournaments that are a big hit among participants.
Food & Drink: Unexpected Delights! ππ»
One of the most surprisingly positive aspects highlighted by visitors is the casino's culinary offerings. Patrons rave about the presence of an amazing, authentic Shanghainese restaurant within the premises, with the "chop chop noodles" receiving particular acclaim for being incredible. It's even recommended as a reliable spot for a late-night feed, though one reviewer did note that prices could be on the higher side during late hours.
The bar scene garners mixed but generally positive feedback regarding value. While one patron enthusiastically declared it the "cheapest bar in town," another felt that general drink prices might be a bit higher compared to other casinos. However, a consistent highlight is the Happy Hour (4-6 pm) which offers great deals at $6 for beer, spirits, and wine, making it an excellent spot to meet friends and kick off a night out.
Atmosphere & Amenities: More Than Just Gaming πΊ
Casino Canberra successfully cultivates a cool, unique vibe that many visitors find underrated. While it can be quite quiet and lack atmosphere at certain times, such as late Saturday afternoons, it maintains a clean and inviting environment. For sports enthusiasts, a significant bonus is the presence of large screens, perfect for watching live sports like NRL and horse racing. The staff are frequently commended for being lovely and welcoming, contributing to a pleasant overall experience.
Location & Accessibility πΆββοΈ
The casino's entrance can be a little tricky to find, as it is reportedly tucked away behind closed shops, with one review mentioning it's on the right from the fountain. Despite this, its central location makes it highly accessible, especially for those staying in nearby hotels. A major draw for many is its late operating hours, staying open until 4 am, providing a convenient option for late-night entertainment or a final drink of the evening.
Overall Recommendation: Who Should Visit? π
Casino Canberra is more than just a place for gambling; itβs a versatile entertainment venue. If you're looking for a casino that emphasizes enjoyable table games, boasts unexpectedly fantastic food, and offers a relaxed yet distinct atmosphere with great value drinks during happy hour, this "little casino" is definitely worth a visit. It's a great option for an enjoyable night out, whether you're keen on gaming, dining, catching a live game, or just having a relaxed drink.
It's definitely on the smaller side compared to some of the mega-casinos you see around Australia, but it's got this cool, unique vibe. What's different is they don't have any poker machines, which is a bit unusual. But honestly, the table games are a lot of fun. And the real surprise? The food! They have this amazing, authentic Shanghainese place β seriously, those chop chop noodles are incredible. It's a different kind of casino experience, but in a really good way. They have large screens to watch live sports, thats a bonus, we dont have many big screens around the city. The bar is cheap, i think its the cheapest in town cant find this kind of deal around canberra.
Great little casino! The staff are lovely, they organize many tournaments for members which are a big hit, Make sure you become a member to take part in them. I found the drinks a bit on the higher side compared to other casino prices!
Honestly, itβs underrated. They have this βvibeβ that I kinda like. From the fountain, the entrance is on the right. They open until 4am which is cool, i stay at crowne plaza, walk down to the casino and have a drink.
If youβre looking for a late night feed, I do recommend heading here for some nice decent food! Price was quite expensive but I guess it was late hours too!
Entrance is tucked away behind closed down shops so no walk in off the street entry. Clean, small but nice. Could only see one bar but a few screens to watch NRL and horse racing (plus a sml area of gambling tables). Was late Sat arvo so very quiet and really no atmosphere. Happy Hour 4-6pm $6 beer; spirits and wine was great. A good place to meet and start your Sat outing before a quick stroll via City Walk to eateries and busier places.
