The Star Gold Coast

Located in the vibrant heart of Broadbeach on Australia's iconic Gold Coast, The Star Gold Coast stands as a prominent entertainment complex, primarily known for its extensive casino offerings. However, it’s much more than just a gaming venue, encompassing a hotel, a diverse range of dining options, bars, and live entertainment, aiming to provide a complete leisure experience.

The Casino Experience 🎲

For those seeking the thrill of the game, The Star Gold Coast's casino floor is a significant draw. Guests consistently praise its "huge and well-maintained" layout, boasting a "great variety of games" from classic poker and blackjack tables to modern slot machines. The atmosphere is frequently described as "vibrant and exciting," creating an energetic buzz that appeals to both seasoned players and beginners.

The staff on the casino floor receive commendation for being "super friendly and helpful," assisting guests with game rules and queries. Security is noted as present but not intrusive, contributing to a feeling of safety and organization.

Accommodation: A Mixed Bag 🏨

The hotel experience at The Star Gold Coast presents a more varied picture, with guest satisfaction often depending on the room type and specific circumstances of the stay. Some visitors report an "excellent experience," particularly when staying in higher-tier accommodations like the Executive Suite or receiving complimentary upgrades to a Club Suite. These experiences highlight "fantastic service," "immaculate, spacious" rooms with "spectacular views," daily room turn-down, and access to executive lounges and complimentary breakfasts, showcasing "Proper 5-star Hotel Professionalism." The concierge and reception teams are frequently praised for their helpfulness and professionalism, especially during specific service recovery situations.

However, other hotel guests have faced significant disappointments. Criticisms include last-minute notification of major facility closures (like the main pool being shut for months), leading to an "overcrowded" alternative pool. Issues with basic services such as room service forgetting items and non-existent housekeeping are also reported. Some guests experienced frustration with staff communication, including instances of staff claiming "Do Not Disturb" lights were on when they were not, and staff ignoring actual "Do Not Disturb" signs. These negative experiences suggest that basic guest comfort is sometimes overshadowed by the venue's focus on casino operations, leaving some guests feeling that standard hotel services are not a priority.

While breakfast is often included with hotel stays, be aware that queues can be long, with some guests opting to dine elsewhere to avoid the wait.

Dining, Bars & Amenities 🍽️🍹

Beyond the gaming floor and accommodation, The Star Gold Coast offers a comprehensive array of dining and entertainment options. Reviews mention a "nice mix of dining options, from casual bites to more upscale meals," with the food generally exceeding expectations. Cocktails are also noted as a great way to unwind. The venue features multiple bars, some offering live music, contributing to a lively and enjoyable atmosphere for a full night out. Additionally, guests can find facilities for a spa and other amenities, making it a versatile destination.

Location & Convenience 📍

The Star Gold Coast boasts a highly convenient location, just a "short ride from Surfers Paradise." Its accessibility is further enhanced by easy parking, making it a straightforward destination for both local visitors and tourists alike. The areas around the casino also offer excellent opportunities for people watching.

Overall Verdict

The Star Gold Coast successfully positions itself as a comprehensive entertainment hub. For those primarily interested in a vibrant casino experience, diverse dining, and a lively atmosphere, it delivers a strong offering with generally excellent staff and facilities on the gaming and entertainment side. While the hotel component can be exceptional for guests in higher-tier rooms or those experiencing good service recovery, it's important for potential hotel guests to be aware of the reported inconsistencies in basic service provision. Overall, it's a recommended visit for entertainment and a full night out on the Gold Coast, even if you're not a keen gambler, but hotel guests should manage expectations regarding standard services.

I recently visited The Star Casino Gold Coast with a group of friends, and we had an amazing time! From the moment we walked in, the energy and atmosphere were buzzing. The casino floor is huge and well-maintained, with a great variety of games—everything from classic poker and blackjack tables to modern slot machines. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned player, there’s something for everyone. What really stood out to me was the staff. Everyone we interacted with was super friendly and helpful, especially when we had questions about how certain games worked. Security was present but not intrusive, and everything felt very safe and well-organized.We also grabbed dinner at one of the restaurants inside, and the food exceeded expectations. There’s a nice mix of dining options, from casual bites to more upscale meals. The cocktails were great too—perfect for unwinding between games. After spending some time at the tables, we explored the rest of the venue and even ended the night at one of the bars with live music. The vibe was vibrant without being too loud or overwhelming, which made it easy to relax and enjoy the night.Parking was easy, and the location is super convenient—just a short ride from Surfers Paradise. Overall, The Star offers more than just a casino experience—it’s a full night out with entertainment, food, and fun all under one roof.Highly recommend visiting if you’re on the Gold Coast, whether you’re into gaming or just looking for a fun night with friends. We’ll definitely be going back again!

Our recent stay at The Star Gold Coast was, in a word, frustrating. What was meant to be a relaxing family getaway turned into a string of disappointments, all of which highlighted one simple truth: they don’t care about their hotel guests — they care about making money from the casino. We were notified just 36 hours before check-in that the main pool would be closed for three months for maintenance — something they obviously knew weeks in advance. Instead of giving us a fair chance to reschedule or make alternative plans, they conveniently waited until the last minute to break the news. Their repeated reassurance that “there’s another pool available” was laughable — there’s only one alternative pool, and it was so overcrowded you could barely get a seat, let alone enjoy it with a toddler.Room service was a mess — we ordered twice, and both times they forgot items. No urgency to correct it, just disinterest.Housekeeping? Non-existent. Despite having the green “service” light on nearly the entire day (aside from our toddler’s 2-hour nap), and telling reception twice in person that we were heading out and the room was free to clean, we returned at 7:30pm to find nothing done — no towels, no fresh linen, no cleaned room. When we raised it again, instead of simply apologising, staff tried to gaslight us, claiming we had the Do Not Disturb light on. This was not only untrue, but completely dismissive of the fact that we’d spoken to them directly earlier in the day to confirm the green light was on.To top it off, staff ignored our Do Not Disturb sign earlier in the stay, knocking on the door and ringing the bell — waking up our 18-month-old. Anyone travelling with a toddler knows what a disaster that is.We also ate at one of the on-site restaurants. Food was decent, but service was again poor. Other tables were seated after us and had their orders taken well before us. It felt like we were invisible. To add to it all, I am heavily pregnant, and this stay caused unnecessary stress during what should have been a relaxing time for our family. We are not the type to leave bad reviews or complain, but the sheer amount of issues — and the way staff handled them — left us with no choice. The lack of basic service, poor communication, and total disregard for guest comfort is unacceptable.Ultimately, The Star isn’t interested in being a great hotel — they’re interested in being a cash machine, fuelled by casino profits. Guests are clearly not the priority. Behind the shiny exterior and marketing buzzwords is a hotel that simply doesn’t deliver on basic hospitality.Never again.I will end with a positive note though - we checked out ASAP and got a refund for the remainder of the stay. We booked into the Sheraton Grand Mirage very last minute (highly recommend - if you’d like a great resort with great service).

Cyclone Alfred, cancellation Flooded Rooms. After a rocky, experience booking through Luxury Escapes, who are utterly useless. The STAR stepped up, and excelled, stayed in the Executive Suite more than enough room and luxury with balcony views. Service was fantastic, room turned down every day, complimentary breakfast every day, complimentary use of Executive lounge. It's rare these days to find great customer service, but all my requests promptly and professionally attended to. Hats off to the Amazing Concierge Team and Reception Manager most helpful . Proper 5 star Hotel Professionalism all round.

My wife and I stayed at The Star Grand for one night while attending an event, and overall it was an excellent experience. From check-in to check-out, the service was fantastic — professional, welcoming and efficient. We had originally booked an Executive Deluxe King Room but were pleasantly surprised with a complimentary upgrade to a Club Suite. The suite was immaculate, spacious and offered spectacular views. It was definitely one of the highlights of our stay.Unfortunately, we missed out on trying the included hotel breakfast. We arrived at 9:00 AM to find a queue stretching out of the restaurant and decided not to wait. Instead, we went to the JW Marriott nearby, which had an incredible breakfast buffet and worth every cent.Despite that, the overall experience at The Star Grand was excellent. I'd happily stay again, maybe just a little earlier for breakfast next time.

Great service from the team at The Star Gold Coast Casino. I stayed for 2 nights and had a wonderful time exploring the grounds and surrounds of The Star. The Casino is vibrant and exciting. There are many -laces to have a drink, a cocktail, a nibble, a spa. It just keeps giving. The areas around the Casino are an excellent place to people watch.
